
<p><strong>Online Betting App Promotion:</strong> South Indian actor Vijay Deverakonda appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday in connection with a case involving the promotion of illegal betting apps. He arrived at the ED office in Basheerbagh, Hyderabad, at around 11 am.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Vijay Deverakonda Questioned</h2>



<p>The ED is questioning Vijay about his association with betting apps (online gambling) and the payments he received for their promotion. According to sources, the investigation is underway under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and is based on five FIRs registered in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Prakash Raj Previously Questioned</h2>



<p>Vijay is the second actor to appear before the ED in this case. Earlier, on July 30, actor Prakash Raj was questioned for about five hours. Prakash Raj stated that he had advertised a betting app in 2016 but had not received any payment for it. He added that he later realised he shouldn&#8217;t have done the advertisement.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rana Daggubati and Lakshmi Manchu Also Summoned</h2>



<p>The ED has summoned actors Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Lakshmi Manchu in this case. Rana was asked to appear on July 23, but he requested a new date. He has now been asked to appear on August 11, and Lakshmi Manchu has been issued a notice to appear before the ED on August 13.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Case Registered Against 29 Celebrities</h2>



<p>On July 10, the ED registered a case against 29 celebrities, including actors, influencers, and YouTubers, for promoting illegal betting apps. This action was taken under the violation of the Public Gambling Act, 1867, and on suspicion of money laundering. This list includes names such as Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Nidhi Agarwal, Pranitha Subhash, Lakshmi Manchu, Ananya Nagalla, Sri Mukhi, Shymala, Varshaini Soundarajan, Vasant Krishnan, Shobha Shetty, Amrita Chaudhary, Nayani Pavani, Neha Pathan, Pandu, Padmavathi, Harsha Sai, and Bayya Sunny Yadav.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Pre-existing Case</h2>



<p>In March 2025, the Cyberabad police registered an FIR against Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, and others for promoting betting apps. Vijay and Rana had claimed that they had only promoted legally permitted online skill-based games.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Investigation Ongoing</h2>



<p>The ED&#8217;s investigation is thoroughly examining the financial transactions related to the promotion of betting apps and the suspicion of money laundering. More celebrities are likely to be questioned in the coming days in this case.</p>

<p>A cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh&#8217;s Kinnaur district on Wednesday, just a day after a similar incident in Uttarakhand&#8217;s Uttarkashi district, has caused flash floods. The cloudburst, which occurred in Tangling, Kinnaur, has stranded a large number of pilgrims on their way to Kailash Mansarovar. The 17th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) swiftly launched a rescue operation, evacuating hundreds of stranded pilgrims to safety. Debris and rocks swept down from the mountains by the floodwaters have blocked roads. Videos of the devastating event are rapidly circulating on social media.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">413 Pilgrims Rescued</h2>



<p>The strong currents have washed away bridges over the Tanglipi and Kangrang nullahs on the Kailash Yatra route. Rescue teams, using zip lines, have rescued 413 pilgrims and moved them to safety. Rescue operations are ongoing to save other stranded pilgrims. Reports indicate another cloudburst near Ribba village in Kinnaur, at Raldang Khad, completely blocking National Highway-5. Large boulders and mud have blocked the highway. However, no casualties have been reported so far.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Four Dead in Uttarkashi Floods</h2>



<p>Earlier on Tuesday, a cloudburst in Dharali village, Uttarkashi district, resulted in four confirmed deaths, with over 50 people still missing, including 11 army personnel. The Dhami government in Uttarakhand immediately swung into action, ordering a full-scale rescue operation. Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami by phone, assuring all possible assistance.</p>

Bihar Assembly Elections: Nitish Kumar&#39;s Pre-Poll Announcements Target Key Voter Groups


<p>With the Bihar Assembly elections approaching, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is actively campaigning, making significant announcements to garner public support. Recently, he announced free electricity up to 125 units for all households. Now, in a pre-election move, he has addressed three key constituencies simultaneously.</p>



<p>On Tuesday, the Nitish government approved the implementation of a domicile policy for teacher recruitment under the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE).</p>



<p>This will reserve over 85% of the seats for Bihar natives. The domicile policy will be applied to TRE-4, which is expected to recruit 1.10 lakh teachers later this year.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">40% Seats Reserved for Students from Bihar</h2>



<p>The notification states that 40% of the teaching positions will be reserved for candidates who have passed their 10th or 12th standard examinations from a Bihar school or college. This means that even Bihar residents who completed their secondary education outside the state will not be eligible for this reservation.</p>



<p>Additionally, separate reserved seats have been announced for candidates from Bihar&#8217;s Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). A quota of seats is also reserved for women from Bihar.</p>



<p>This announcement is seen as an attempt by CM Nitish to garner support from Bihar&#8217;s youth. This follows a recent announcement aimed at women.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Women Also Benefit from New Policy</h2>



<p>On July 8th, the NDA government announced a 35% reservation for women natives of Bihar in government jobs. While this reservation has been in place since 2016, previously, women from other states could also benefit. Now, only women from Bihar will be eligible.</p>



<p>This move by CM Nitish simultaneously targets two key demographics. These announcements could significantly impact RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav (तेजस्वी यादव), who has been actively campaigning on employment issues. He may need to strategise to counter Nitish Kumar&#8217;s pre-election initiatives.</p>

<p>India will not yield to pressure from the US regarding Trump tariffs and a halt to oil imports from Russia; instead, the government is preparing to counter these pressures.</p>



<p>The central government has refused to stop oil imports from Russia despite threats from US President Donald Trump.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, the government is preparing a special fund of ₹20,000 crore under the Export Promotion Mission to help exporters counter the 25% Trump tariffs.</p>



<p>This fund, starting in September, aims to strengthen Brand India by improving access to export credit and removing non-tariff barriers.</p>



<p>The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is advising exporters to develop and market indigenous brands to tackle Trump tariffs.</p>



<p>The new fund will provide export financing, regulation, standards, market access, warehousing, and e-commerce facilities.</p>

<p>On Tuesday, Trump threatened to significantly increase tariffs on India within the next 24 hours. In an interview with a news channel, Trump reiterated that India is &#8220;fueling the war&#8221; by buying oil from Russia and that he would not be pleased if this continued.</p>



<p>He stated that India has not been a good trading partner, adding, &#8220;They do a lot of business with us, we don&#8217;t do that much business with them.&#8221; Trump also mentioned the possibility of announcing tariffs on pharmaceuticals and semiconductor imports within a week.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Russia Condemns Threats as Illegal</h2>



<p>The office of Russian President Vladimir Putin has strongly reacted to Trump&#8217;s threat of tariffs on India if it does not stop oil imports from Russia.</p>



<p>Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that forcing any country to stop trading with Russia is illegal and violates international norms. He asserted that every sovereign country has the right to decide its economic relationships. &#8220;We consider this a direct threat against our trading partners,&#8221; he added.</p>

Nine More Districts to Join MP&#39;s Metropolitan Regions


<p><strong>MP News:</strong> On Monday, the Madhya Pradesh Metropolitan Region Planning and Development Bill, 2025, was introduced in the Vidhan Sabha for the development of the Bhopal and Indore Metropolitan Regions. The Bhopal region will include Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, Vidisha, and Rajgarh, while the Indore region will comprise Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar. The bill includes provisions for the formation of a Metropolitan Area, a Metropolitan Planning Committee, a Metropolitan Area Development Authority, its executive committee, a Metropolitan Development and Special Planning Authority, and an Integrated Metropolitan Transport Authority.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Chief Minister to Head the Authority</h2>

<p>The Chief Minister will be the chairman of the authority. The ministers of three departments – Urban Development, Panchayat &amp; Rural Development, and Revenue – will be the vice-chairpersons. The Chief Secretary will be a member. An executive committee will be formed to implement the authority&#8217;s work. Its chairman will be the Metropolitan Commissioner. After the formation of the Metropolitan Authority, the power to grant development permissions will rest with it. The authority will also grant development permissions in the areas of the Area Development Plan and TDS. Government departments will also have to inform the authority before undertaking any construction. The authority will have the power to revoke permissions if objections are raised. The Metropolitan Commissioner will grant development permissions for private projects as well. There is a provision for appeal if development permission is not granted. Local bodies will continue to issue building permits at the local level.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Functions of the Metropolitan Authority</h2>



<p>● Assisting the planning committee in drafting the plan.</p>



<p>● Planning and development in areas outside the jurisdiction of development authorities.</p>



<p>● Development of projects spanning multiple authority jurisdictions.</p>



<p>● Coordination and implementation of projects and schemes.</p>



<p>● Management of the Metropolitan Development Fund and land bank.</p>



<p>● Planning and implementation of government-directed projects, schemes, or area development plans.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Metropolitan Development and Investment Plan</h2>



<p>The Metropolitan Area Development Plan will be prepared for a minimum of 15 years. It will define the economic development policy for the metropolitan area. It will outline the proper utilisation of all resources. It will comprehensively depict the uses of land in the region, including settlements, agricultural land, forests, barren land, water bodies, transportation, and industrial areas. Furthermore, it will set policies for infrastructure, tourism, watershed management, water supply, public amenities and services, transportation, public transport, industrial development, forest conservation, and the development of large infrastructure projects.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Plan Approval Process</h2>



<p>● The authority will prepare a draft plan, obtain approval from the Metropolitan Planning Committee, and then invite objections and suggestions.</p>



<p>● A committee will be formed to hear objections and suggestions and resolve them.</p>



<p>● After the hearing, the authority will send the draft plan, along with its report and the committee&#8217;s recommendations, to the government for approval.</p>



<p>● The final decision on the plan will rest with the state government. Work will commence only after approval.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Other Provisions</h2>



<p>● The government will create a Metropolitan Development Fund with an initial capital of ₹200 crore for administrative functions under the Act. Development charges and fees will be deposited into this fund.</p>



<p>● The Metropolitan Commissioner may authorise entry onto any building or land within their jurisdiction for investigations and surveys.</p>



<p>● If the Metropolitan Commissioner does not decide on a development permission application within 60 days, it will be deemed approved.</p>



<p>● The government will form an Integrated Transport Authority for the Metropolitan Area (Bhopal Indore Metropolitan Region). It will effectively implement and coordinate measures taken by various departments regarding transport and traffic.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Action for Violations of Development Permissions</h2>



<p>In the metropolitan area, for any development without authority approval, violation of development permission conditions, or failure to provide stipulated amenities, the Metropolitan Development Authority will issue a notice to provide the amenities within a specified time. Failure to comply will result in the Metropolitan Authority undertaking the development or providing the amenities itself, and recovering the entire cost as a penalty.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Development as per Plan</h2>



<p>Development in the metropolitan area will be in accordance with the Metropolitan Development and Investment Plan. The Metropolitan Area Development Authority will create plans and schemes and will be responsible for their approval.</p>

<p>The Rajasthan government has swung into action to curb accidents caused by dilapidated buildings. So far, 4276 dilapidated buildings have been identified. Of these, 175 have been demolished and 205 sealed. </p>



<p>Action is pending on 1533 buildings, while the owners of 2362 dilapidated buildings have been asked to vacate them. Many of these properties are entangled in legal disputes.</p>



<p>The Department of Local Self-Government has asked all municipal bodies to seal or demolish dilapidated buildings and submit reports. They have also been instructed to ensure that warning boards are displayed in front of such buildings and warned against negligence. </p>



<p>Jodhpur city tops the list, with both its north and south municipal corporations having 322 dilapidated buildings. Bikaner has 150, and Jaipur Heritage has 126 identified buildings.</p>

Bihar to Witness Rain for Next Seven Days; 38-Year-Old Record Broken in Purnia


<p>Heavy rainfall is expected to lash Bihar for the next seven days. According to the Meteorological Department, &#8216;the monsoon trough line is passing over Chhapra and Valmiki Nagar. Simultaneously, another trough is passing through north-eastern Bihar. This is expected to cause rainfall across the state for the next 7 days.&#8217; </p>



<p>The Meteorological Department states that areas which received less rainfall in June and July are now experiencing rainfall in August, compensating for the earlier deficit. The department forecasts heavy rainfall in the state for the next seven days. According to data from the Patna Meteorological Centre, 403.1 mm of rainfall has been recorded so far, against an expected 545 mm.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rain Alert for 25 Districts</h2>



<p>The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for Bihar. Heavy rainfall is expected in 25 districts of the state. The department predicts intense rainfall in these districts on Wednesday, along with the possibility of lightning. A yellow alert has been issued. Winds of up to 40 KM/H are also anticipated. The Disaster Management department has advised people to exercise caution, remain vigilant about changing weather conditions, and avoid open areas.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Record Rainfall in Purnia</h2>



<p>Purnia has witnessed record rainfall after 38 years. According to the Meteorological Department, 270.6 mm of rainfall was recorded between Sunday and Monday, the highest since 1987 when 294.9 mm of rainfall was recorded. Meanwhile, the rainfall has caused flood-like situations in Bhojpur, with most schools closed until 9 August. In Bettiah, the Gandak river has flooded roads to a depth of 4 feet.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Siwan Receives Highest Rainfall in 24 Hours</h2>



<p>Several districts experienced heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. Siwan received the highest rainfall at 90.4 mm, followed by Madhubani and East Champaran at 75.6 mm, Nalanda at 74.8 mm, Katihar at 71.4 mm, and Purnia at 67.6 mm.</p>

<p><strong>Ganpati Festival 2025 Special Trains:</strong> Central Railway has announced 44 new special trains for the upcoming Ganpati Mahotsav, bringing much-needed relief to Ganesh devotees. Two additional services have also been added to the Diva-Chiplun-Diva MEMU daily unreserved trains. This announcement increases the total number of Ganpati special trains from 250 to 296.</p>



<p>Ganpati Festival is considered the biggest and most grand festival in Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai and the Konkan region. Millions of devotees travel to their villages during this time. Every year, the railway runs special trains to manage this crowd and ease travel for the people. This year, the number of services has been further increased, providing significant relief to passengers.</p>



<p>A key addition is a bi-weekly special train between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and Sawantwadi Road, operating a total of 8 trips. This train will depart from LTT at 8:45 AM on Thursdays and Sundays (28 August, 31 August, 4 September, and 7 September), arriving at Sawantwadi Road at 10:20 PM the same day.</p>



<p>The return journey from Sawantwadi Road will depart at 11:20 PM on the same dates, arriving at LTT, Mumbai at 12:30 PM the next day. This train will have 20 stops, including major stations like Thane, Panvel, Roha, Ratnagiri, Kudal, and Sindhudurg. The train&#8217;s composition will include two AC-3 tier coaches, twelve sleeper coaches, six general second-class coaches, and two guard brake vans.</p>



<p>Furthermore, 36 services of MEMU daily unreserved special trains between Diva and Khed will be introduced. From Diva, the train will depart daily at 1:40 PM from 22 August to 8 September, reaching Khed at 8:00 PM the same day. The return train will depart from Khed at 8:00 AM daily from 23 August to 9 September, arriving at Diva at 1:00 PM. This train, an 8-coach MEMU rake, will stop at several local stations including Panvel, Roha, Indapur, and Vinhere.</p>



<p>Two additional services have also been added to the previously announced Diva-Chiplun-Diva MEMU daily unreserved special trains. This train will now operate 40 trips and run from 22 August to 10 September. The railway has also simplified the reservation system for passenger convenience.</p>



<p>Bookings for Ganpati Special Train number 01131 commenced on 3 August at all computerised reservation centres and on the website <a href="www.irctc.co.in">www.irctc.co.in</a>. Tickets for unreserved compartments can be purchased through the UTS app or at the station, and the fare will be as per the usual charges for superfast mail/express trains.</p>



<p>With this addition, the total number of previously announced 250 trains has increased to 296. This initiative by the railway is a boon for the thousands of Ganesh devotees who travel from Mumbai and surrounding areas to Konkan during Ganesh Utsav. This will ensure a safe and convenient journey for these passengers.</p>

<p>The SSC Stenographer examination will be held from 6 August to 8 August 2025 at various examination centres across the country. A total of 1,590 posts will be filled through this recruitment, including 230 Grade ‘C’ and 1,360 Grade ‘D’ posts. Candidates will be appointed to various ministries and departments of the central government. For some candidates who had requested a scribe, the deadline to register their scribe on the official SSC website was 2 August 2025. Instructions have been issued that only pre-registered scribes will be permitted entry to the examination centre.</p>
