
<p>The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has finally apprehended Mohammad Dilshad, a murder accused who had been absconding for 26 years. The 52-year-old Dilshad is accused of murdering a man at his workplace in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, in October 1999. After the murder, he fled to India and has remained a fugitive ever since.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Case Handed Over to CBI in 2022</h2>



<p>The CBI received the case in April 2022 at the request of Saudi Arabian authorities. Investigations revealed that Dilshad was working as a heavy motor mechanic and security guard in Riyadh at the time. Following the murder, he absconded and repeatedly changed passports and documents to conceal his identity. He fraudulently created a new identity and travelled to countries like Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Accused Apprehended in Delhi</h2>



<p>The CBI launched an investigation in his native village in Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh, and issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) against him. Based on technical evidence and human intelligence, the CBI traced Dilshad’s new passport and issued a second LOC. Finally, on 11 August 2025, he was apprehended at Delhi&#8217;s Indira Gandhi International Airport while arriving in New Delhi via Jeddah from Medina. He was using a forged passport at the time of his arrest.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CBI Continues Investigation</h2>



<p>Dilshad, currently employed as a heavy vehicle mechanic with a company in Medina, was produced before a court on 14 August 2025 and remanded to judicial custody. The CBI stated that the investigation into this case is still ongoing.</p>

<p>A horrific road accident occurred on Tuesday near Pimpalgaon village on the Chiplun-Karad highway in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra. Five people died on the spot in the accident. A speeding Thar car collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw with such force that the rickshaw was destroyed. Four people in the rickshaw died, along with the driver of the Thar car.</p>



<p>According to eyewitnesses, the Haryana-registered Thar car was travelling at a high speed and the driver suddenly lost control, resulting in the collision with the oncoming auto-rickshaw. The Thar car also subsequently collided with a truck. All five deceased were men, four of whom are reported to be from the Pimpalgaon Nurani neighbourhood. Among the deceased is a two-and-a-half-year-old child.</p>



<p>Upon receiving information about the incident, the DySP and Police Inspector of Chiplun, along with their team, arrived at the scene. The police conducted a panchnama (official inspection of the accident site) and sent the bodies of the deceased to Chiplun Rural Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered, and an investigation has been launched.</p>



<p>The police are currently investigating whether the Thar driver was under the influence of alcohol and the exact cause of the accident. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time following the accident. The sudden death of four people from the same area has cast a pall of gloom over Pimpalgaon. The entire village is mourning and expressing condolences to the bereaved families.</p>

<p>Mumbai has come to a standstill due to incessant heavy rainfall. Waterlogging is widespread, submerging roads and railway tracks. The severity of the situation has led to the closure of schools, colleges, and offices. Meanwhile, the Mithi River, flowing through the city, has also swelled, inundating low-lying areas. The Mumbai Police, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have launched rescue operations, relocating affected residents to safer locations.</p>



<p>Heavy rainfall since the previous night has caused the Mithi River to breach its danger mark. Water from the river has entered Kranti Nagar in Kurla, with NDRF assisting in the evacuation of residents to safer areas.</p>

<p>Officials stated that following the Mithi River exceeding the danger mark, the Krantinagar area near Bailbazar, Kurla (West), a low-lying slum area near the Mumbai International Airport, is undergoing evacuation. Residents are being relocated to a shelter established at the nearby Magan Nathuram Municipal School. By 10:00 AM, 25 people had been relocated, with provisions for their accommodation and meals arranged.</p>


<p>Mumbai Mithi River Flood: The meteorological department has issued a ‘red alert’ forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in Mumbai and surrounding areas. Following this, all schools, colleges, and government offices in the metropolis have been declared closed.</p>

<p><strong>Himachal Pradesh Landslide:</strong> The series of cloudbursts in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, shows no sign of abating. Recent incidents on 13 and 19 August 2025 have caused widespread devastation in the district. Cloudbursts in areas such as Banjar, Ani-Nirmand, Sainj Valley, and Lahaul Valley led to flash floods in rivers and streams, severely impacting homes, shops, crops, and roads.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Scenes of Devastation</h2>



<p>On 13 August, cloudbursts in Batahar and Shri Khand Mahadev Bhimdwari areas of Banjar and Ani-Nirmand sub-divisions triggered a surge of debris and water in the Tirthan Valley and surrounding areas. Several villages were evacuated, and people were moved to safer locations. Flooding in the Jiwa nallah in Sainj Valley swept away several vehicles, while a police outpost was washed away in the Ganvi Valley.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">389 Roads Closed</h2>



<p>On 19 August, a cloudburst in Kullu&#8217;s Lahaul Valley damaged roads, bridges, and shops. Heavy rains led to the closure of 389 roads, including two national highways, severely impacting the region&#8217;s connectivity. Crops and fields have also suffered significant damage.</p>

This record-breaking shot was taken on 14 August 2025 near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, killing two Russian soldiers. Previously, this world record was also held by a soldier from the Ukrainian Ghost Sniper unit, who killed a Russian soldier from a distance of 3.8 kilometres in November 2023.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How was the Target Hit?</h2>



<p>The Ukrainian Ghost Sniper unit soldier used a domestically produced 14.5 mm “Alligator” rifle to hit the target. Artificial intelligence (AI) and drones were also used. At the time of the shot, the two Russian soldiers were in a building, and they were targeted and shot through a window.</p>

<p>The Patna-Purnea Expressway, one of Bihar&#8217;s most ambitious road projects, has been officially designated a national expressway by the central government. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) issued a notification declaring the expressway as National Expressway-9 (NE-9). This will be Bihar&#8217;s first expressway entirely within the state&#8217;s boundaries.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Patna-Purnia Expressway: A Game Changer</h2>



<p>Expressing gratitude to the central government, Bihar&#8217;s Minister of Road Construction, Nitin Nabin, stated: “The notification of the Patna-Purnia Expressway as National Expressway-9 is a moment of pride for Bihar. Since the project&#8217;s announcement, work has been progressing rapidly, and the state government is providing, and will continue to provide, all necessary support to the central government for its timely completion.”</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Patna to Purnia in Just 3 Hours</h2>



<p>He further added: “This project will give a new direction to the state&#8217;s road infrastructure. Once operational, the journey from Patna to Purnia will be completed in just 3 hours, giving a new impetus to the socio-economic development of the Seemanchal region. The national expressway status is undoubtedly a historic achievement for Bihar.”</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Benefiting Numerous Regions</h2>



<p>The 250-kilometre-long expressway will commence at Miranagar Arezi (Hajipur) on NH-22 and pass through Narharpur, Harlochanpur, Bazidpur, Sarounja, Rasna, Parora, and Fatehpur, connecting to NH-27 (East-West Corridor) at Hansdaha in Purnea district. The project will include 21 major bridges, 140 minor bridges, 11 railway overbridges, 21 interchanges, and 322 underpasses. Separate link roads will also be constructed to connect the district headquarters of Samastipur, Saharsa, and Madhepura. Land acquisition is progressing rapidly across more than 250 villages in 29 blocks across 6 districts for the project. Construction will commence upon completion of land acquisition.</p>

<p><strong>MP Weather:</strong> The monsoon has returned to Madhya Pradesh with a new system. Due to a strong monsoon system, heavy rainfall is expected in the last days of August. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon trough is passing through the west-south part of MP. Simultaneously, two cyclonic circulations, two troughs, and a low-pressure area are active. This is causing continuous heavy rain in the Indore-Ujjain division. The Meteorological Department predicts that the rain system will strengthen further from 21 August, potentially leading to extremely heavy rainfall. A warning has been issued for heavy rain in nine districts in the next 24 hours.</p>

<p>On Monday, several districts of MP, including Shajapur, Ratlam, Khargone, Barwani, Dhar, Betul, Guna, Narmadapuram, Raisen, Jabalpur, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Satna, Umaria, Dewas, Sehore, Rajgarh, and Vidisha, experienced light rain. <p>A tragic incident has unfolded in Ahalyanagar district, Maharashtra. A devastating fire engulfed a furniture shop in the Nevasa area on Monday, leaving the entire locality shaken. The intensity of the fire was such that four members of the Rasane family, who were asleep in the house above the shop, perished.</p>



<p>The victims include the shop owner, Mayur Arun Rasane (45 years), his wife Payal Mayur Rasane (38 years), their 10-year-old son Ansh, and their 7-year-old son Chaitanya. They were all burnt alive. Two other family members, 25-year-old Yash Kiran Rasane and a 70-year-old woman, sustained severe injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.</p>



<p>According to Nevasa police, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The fire was so intense that the fire brigade faced significant challenges in bringing it under control. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the entire area. An entire family was wiped out overnight. Locals have described the incident as a heart-wrenching tragedy.</p>



<p>Officials stated that Mayur Rasane&#8217;s furniture shop is located under the jurisdiction of the Nevasa police station. The Rasane family resided in rooms built above the shop. A massive fire broke out in the shop in the wee hours of Monday morning. The fire was so fierce that the Rasane family sleeping on the upper floor did not even get a chance to escape, resulting in the tragic death of four individuals. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.</p>


<p>Officials reported that the shop owner lived above his furniture shop with his wife and children. The entire family perished in a devastating fire on Monday.</p>

<p>The Bollywood industry is once again in mourning. Veteran actor Achyut Potdar, known for his role as the professor in the film &#8216;3 Idiots&#8217;, has passed away at the age of 91. He had been unwell for some time and suddenly collapsed last night. He was rushed to the hospital, but his condition continued to deteriorate, and he passed away three days before his birthday.</p>
