
<p><strong>Himachal Pradesh Landslide:</strong> The series of cloudbursts in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, shows no sign of abating. Recent incidents on 13 and 19 August 2025 have caused widespread devastation in the district. Cloudbursts in areas such as Banjar, Ani-Nirmand, Sainj Valley, and Lahaul Valley led to flash floods in rivers and streams, severely impacting homes, shops, crops, and roads.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Scenes of Devastation</h2>



<p>On 13 August, cloudbursts in Batahar and Shri Khand Mahadev Bhimdwari areas of Banjar and Ani-Nirmand sub-divisions triggered a surge of debris and water in the Tirthan Valley and surrounding areas. Several villages were evacuated, and people were moved to safer locations. Flooding in the Jiwa nallah in Sainj Valley swept away several vehicles, while a police outpost was washed away in the Ganvi Valley.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">389 Roads Closed</h2>



<p>On 19 August, a cloudburst in Kullu&#8217;s Lahaul Valley damaged roads, bridges, and shops. Heavy rains led to the closure of 389 roads, including two national highways, severely impacting the region&#8217;s connectivity. Crops and fields have also suffered significant damage.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Administration Engaged in Relief Efforts</h2>



<p>The district administration immediately launched relief and rescue operations. NDRF and local teams are active in the affected areas, and people are being moved to safer locations. Additional Deputy Commissioner Ashwani Kumar stated that the administration is monitoring the situation and providing all possible assistance to the affected people.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Weather Department Alert</h2>



<p>The meteorological department has issued yellow and orange alerts for heavy rainfall in Kullu, Shimla, and other districts. Experts say that cloudburst incidents are increasing due to climate change, deforestation, and uncontrolled construction. Eight major devastating events have been witnessed in the last nine years, a matter of serious concern.</p>

Priyanka Gandhi to Join Rahul Gandhi's Voter Rights Yatra in Madhubani

The Yatra started from Purnia for Araria in the morning. In Araria, Rahul Gandhi will address the press before continuing his journey. Rahul Gandhi was seen riding a bike in Purnia. However, he had started his journey in an open jeep.</p>

<p>The first week of Rahul Gandhi&#8217;s &#8216;Voter Adhikar Yatra&#8217; against alleged ‘vote theft’ in Bihar has been completed. Large crowds are gathering for the Yatra. <p><strong>Rajasthan Weather Today:</strong> The second phase of the monsoon continued in Rajasthan on Saturday. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for six districts and a yellow alert for 11 districts of Rajasthan for today, 24 August. According to the latest forecast by the Meteorological Department, rain is likely in 17 districts of Rajasthan within 90 minutes. The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and one or two spells of heavy rain at isolated places in Jaipur, Jaipur city, Dausa, Sikar, Nagaur, Churu districts and surrounding areas. During this period, there is a possibility of strong winds at a speed of 30-40 KMPH along with lightning.</p>

Ukraine launches 160 drones on Russia in 24 hours, areas engulfed in smoke


<p>Ukraine is currently unwilling to negotiate with Russia, as evidenced by the events of the past 24 hours. Ukraine launched four guided air bombs and 160 drones, all of which were reportedly destroyed by the Russian military.</p>



<p>The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that its air defence systems intercepted 33 Ukrainian drones in the country&#8217;s western border regions. It was reported that air defence systems on duty shot down 13 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles between 9:30 AM and 12:00 PM Moscow time. Twelve of these were in the Bryansk region and one in the Kaluga region.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Russia&#8217;s Statement</h2>



<p>The ministry further reported that 20 more drones were destroyed within the following two hours; eight in Bryansk, seven in Smolensk, three in Kursk, and two in Kaluga.</p>



<p>Earlier in August, Russia accused Ukraine of escalating attacks before a potential meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska.</p>



<p>In a social media post, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that 22 people were killed and 105 injured in Ukrainian shelling and drone attacks over the past week. The ministry also shared a map highlighting the affected areas in Russian territory.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Zelensky Discusses Security Guarantees</h2>



<p>Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he discussed security guarantees for Ukraine during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General in Kyiv.</p>



<p>In a statement on his official website, Zelenskyy said, &#8220;The outcome we need to achieve is a clear framework specifying which countries assist us on the ground, which countries are responsible for securing our airspace, which countries guarantee security at sea and support Ukraine.&#8221; He further added that this guarantee should include funding for the Ukrainian army from allied countries.</p>

<p>Pujara&#8217;s performance in first-class cricket has been extremely impressive. He scored 21,301 runs in 278 first-class matches, with an average of 51.82. His bat produced 66 centuries and 81 half-centuries in first-class cricket. In List A cricket, he scored 5759 runs in 130 matches at an average of 57.01, with 16 centuries and 34 half-centuries.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Last Test Played in 2023</h2>



<p>Pujara played his last Test match against Australia at the Kennington Oval in June 2023, after which he did not find a place in the Indian team. However, he was constantly striving for a comeback. <p>The fare for the Vande Bharat sleeper train is expected to be 10-15% higher than that of the Rajdhani Express, the railway&#8217;s premium train service. A dynamic fare system will be implemented. According to a senior Railway Board official, the Vande Bharat train&#8217;s trial run has been completed, and the train arrived at the Shakurbasti shed (train set depot) in Delhi last week. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">PM to Inaugurate Patna Metro</h2>



<p>Prime Minister Modi&#8217;s visit is tentatively scheduled for the third or fourth week of September. Sources suggest that, in addition to inaugurating the primary corridor of the Patna Metro, he may also flag off the first semi-high-speed Vande Bharat sleeper train. Preparations for the Patna Metro inauguration are underway, although the Patna Metro Rail Corporation is yet to receive formal confirmation from the Prime Minister&#8217;s Office. Meanwhile, power supply to the metro depot will commence within three days, followed by phased trials of the power supply between the New Patliputra Bus Terminal station and Malahi Pakri on the primary corridor.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">12,000 Special Trains for Diwali and Chhath</h2>



<p>Earlier, the Railway Minister announced the operation of 12,000 special trains in Bihar during Diwali and Chhath. Minister Vaishnaw explained that the railways face a massive influx of passengers to and from Bihar during these festivals. To address this, special trains will be deployed to ensure smooth travel for those returning to Bihar from Delhi and other cities. These trains may operate for two weeks, facilitating the homecoming of migrants. Concurrently, the railways have launched a pilot scheme for round-trip packages, offering a discount of up to 20% on return tickets when purchased together. This facility will be available from 13 October to 1 December 2025, applicable to all trains and classes.</p>

Two Indians Killed in US Highway Bus Crash


<p>A tour bus crash in New York, USA, has resulted in the death of five people, including two of Indian origin. All victims were returning from a trip to Niagara Falls when the accident occurred.</p>



<p>Among the deceased are 65-year-old Shankar Kumar Jha from Madhubani district, Bihar, and 60-year-old Pinki Changrani, an Indian-origin resident of East Brunswick, New Jersey.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Bus Carrying 54 Passengers</h2>



<p>The bus, carrying 54 passengers, was returning to New York City on Friday afternoon after a sightseeing trip to the famous falls located between the US and Canada. The driver lost control, causing the bus to veer off the highway and plunge into a ditch.</p>



<p>The accident site was approximately 70 km from Niagara Falls and about 600 km from New York City. Three other fatalities were of Chinese origin. The bus carried several international tourists from countries including India, China, the Philippines, and the USA.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Information on Injured Passengers Scarce</h2>



<p>Details regarding the injured have not been officially released, and the exact number of other Indian passengers on board remains unknown. Some passengers remained hospitalised in serious or stable condition on Saturday, while others were discharged after treatment.</p>



<p>Following the accident, some injured passengers were transported to regional hospitals by a fleet of helicopter ambulances. Police stated that an investigation is underway with the involvement of the National Transportation Safety Board.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Police Statement</h2>



<p>Police reported that the driver showed no signs of impairment and that there was no indication of mechanical failure in the tour bus. Investigators are now examining whether the driver was distracted and lost control of the vehicle.</p>



<p>It is understood that the bus was equipped with an event data recorder, similar to a black box in aircraft, which may contain clues about the cause of the accident.</p>

<p><strong>Dream11 Withdraws as Team India Title Sponsor:</strong> Fantasy gaming platform Dream11 has reportedly decided to withdraw as the title sponsor of Team India, just ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. </p>



<p>This decision comes after the Parliament passed the Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill and it became law after President Droupadi Murmu&#8217;s signature. </p>



<p>The Indian team will participate in the Asia Cup in Dubai from 9 September. During the tournament, Indian players may be seen wearing jerseys without the Dream11 logo.</p>

TikTok ban in India not lifted, says Modi government


<p><strong>TikTok Ban Remains in Effect:</strong> India has not issued any order to unblock the Chinese media platform, TikTok. While some claimed access was being granted via desktop browsers, the Modi government clarified that no such order has been issued. Reports of TikTok being unblocked are false and misleading.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">When was TikTok Banned?</h2>



<p>TikTok was among the internet media platforms blocked by the government in June 2020, following clashes between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh. At that time, the Indian government banned approximately 59 Chinese apps, with further bans on other apps following. The central government cited ‘data privacy’ and ‘national security risks’ as reasons for blocking TikTok. Since then, the app has remained inaccessible in one of India&#8217;s largest markets.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why the Resurfacing Rumours?</h2>



<p>Recent improvements in India-China relations have fuelled speculation of a reversal of the ban. Earlier this week, a visit to New Delhi by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi included meetings with Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Both sides emphasised the importance of ‘frank and constructive’ dialogue. The Prime Minister&#8217;s planned trip to China later this month for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit could signal further improved relations. Meanwhile, after 24 rounds of talks, the Chinese army has withdrawn from Galwan and other areas, easing border tensions. Both countries have agreed to resume border trade and flights. These diplomatic advancements have fuelled speculation about the return of Chinese platforms like TikTok and AliExpress.</p>


<p>The Indian government has responded to concerns regarding TikTok. The central government has clarified that no decision has been taken to unblock the app.</p>

<p><strong>Barmer:</strong> In response to the growing preference for allopathic treatment and declining interest in Ayurveda, the state government has taken a significant decision. Medicine parks will be developed in each assembly constituency.</p>



<p>These parks will cultivate major medicinal plants as well as local herbs to increase awareness and appreciation of their importance, encouraging people to embrace Ayurveda. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian healing system. For thousands of years, its inexpensive and effective treatments were widely used.</p>



<p>However, in recent decades, the popularity of allopathic medicine has surged, leading most people to opt for it. While allopathic treatment offers immediate results, its high cost poses significant challenges for many. To revive interest in Ayurveda, the government has made this crucial decision.</p>



<p>The Ayurveda department will establish a medicine park in each assembly constituency. These parks may be located in public spaces or gardens. Major medicinal plants and local herbs will be cultivated and maintained.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Seven Assembly Constituencies of Barmer-Balotra</h2>



<p>The districts of Barmer and Balotra include the assembly constituencies of Barmer, Chouhtan, Shiv, Gudamalani, Pachpadra, Siwana, and Gudamalani. The department has submitted proposals for establishing medicine gardens in these areas, including Barmer headquarters.</p>



<p>These gardens will feature plants such as <i>Shankhpushpi</i>, <i>Sahjan</i>, <i>Ashwagandha</i>, <i>Shatavari</i>, <i>Guggul</i>, and <i>Guarpatha</i>, among other major and local medicinal herbs.</p>

<p><strong>Rajasthan Pollution:</strong> Fifteen cities across Rajasthan, including Jaipur, will see the construction of new continuous ambient air quality monitoring systems (air quality monitoring centres) within five months. This will provide accurate information on air pollution and strengthen air quality monitoring.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Locations for the First Centres</h2>



<p>The first air quality monitoring centres will be established in Alwar, Khairthal, Kotputli, and Deegh, as these cities are part of the NCR region. Other cities will follow subsequently. Air quality monitoring centres will also be established in Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Salumber, and Kishangarh (Ajmer).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Single Centre Planned for Kota</h2>



<p>The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board had initially decided to establish centres in Behror, Balotra, and Falaudi. However, these have been replaced by Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Kishangarh, and Salumber. While two centres were initially planned for Kota, now only one will be constructed.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Four New Centres for Jaipur</h2>



<p>Four new centres will be built in Jaipur, bringing the total number of centres in the city to ten. However, their locations are yet to be finalised. The Board has already conducted air pollution tests at approximately ten locations in the city using mobile air quality monitoring vehicles, covering 28 parameters.</p>

<p>When cancer spreads through the body, it first reaches the nearby lymph nodes. Doctors previously used radioactive substances or luminous dyes for this purpose. However, patients often experience allergies to dyes, and storing radioactive substances in hospitals is not easy.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Detecting Breast Cancer with Diamonds</h2>



<p>To solve this problem, scientists have developed a new sensor using diamonds. In this technique, doctors will inject a magnetic fluid into the patient&#8217;s tumour before or during surgery. This fluid will travel to the lymph nodes in the same way that cancer cells spread.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A New Method for Cancer Diagnosis</h2>



<p>Doctors will then use a special magnetic sensor with a tiny diamond at its tip. The nitrogen-vacancy centres present in the diamond detect even the slightest changes in magnetic energy, aiding in cancer detection.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Side-Effect-Free Method</h2>



<p>According to Professor Gavin Morley of Warwick University, these colour centres in the diamond not only sense magnetic changes but also give the diamond a light pink hue. This technology could become an extremely easy, safe, and side-effect-free method for detecting cancer in the future.</p>
