<p>US President Donald Trump&#8217;s tariffs have cast a shadow on the relationship between India and the United States of America. Trump initially announced a 25% base tariff on India and later announced an additional 25% tariff for purchasing oil from Russia. However, many experts believe that Trump imposed these tariffs on India because Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not credit Trump for the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The 25% base tariff on India was already in effect and has now doubled.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">50% Tariff Comes into Effect</h2>



<p>A 50% US tariff on India came into effect today, Wednesday, 27 August. The doubled tariff on India was implemented at midnight in the US.</p>

<p>Trump&#8217;s 50% tariff on India is certain to impact India&#8217;s exports to the US. Speaking on this, market expert Ajay Bagga said, “Last year, India exported a total of $86.7 billion to the US. Of this, approximately $55-60 billion worth of exports fall under this 50% tariff. Due to the tariff, there will be a decrease of approximately $25-30 billion in India&#8217;s exports to the US.”</p>

<p><strong>Maharashtra Building Collapse:</strong> A major tragedy struck Vasai, Palghar district, Maharashtra. The rear portion of a four-storey building, Ramabai Apartment, located between Chamunda Nagar and Vijay Nagar on Narangi Road, collapsed late last night. The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation&#8217;s fire department and two teams of the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) are engaged in rescue operations. Three deaths have been reported, and nine injured individuals have been admitted to hospitals in Virar and Nalasopara.</p>



<p>Reports indicate that a section of Ramabai Apartment, situated in Swami Samarth Nagar, suddenly crumbled around 11:30 pm. Three fatalities have been confirmed, and there are fears that 15 to 20 people remain trapped under the debris.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Building was 10 years old</h2>



<p>Local police, NDRF, and municipal corporation teams are involved in the rescue operation. A dog squad is assisting in the search for those buried under the rubble. The rescue operation is hampered by densely populated areas surrounding the building, preventing JCBs and other heavy machinery from reaching the site. Rescue workers are attempting to remove debris manually.</p>



<p>The building is reportedly about ten years old, and the municipal corporation had previously issued an audit notice. The entire building has been evacuated following the incident.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Family celebrating daughter&#8217;s birthday at the time of the accident</h2>



<p>This tragedy has also claimed the joy of a family. Relatives and friends had gathered at the Ramabai Apartment to celebrate the first birthday of the young daughter of the Joel family. However, the accident occurred during the celebration. The infant daughter and her mother died, while the father, Omkar Joel, remains missing.</p>



<p>Sachin Nivalkar (44), his wife Suprila (40), and their 14-year-old son Arnav, residing on the fourth floor of the same building, are also reported missing.</p>

<p>A senior official has launched a rebellion against US President Donald Trump, even threatening to take him to court.</p>



<p>The controversy stems from Trump&#8217;s announcement of the dismissal of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. However, Cook has declared she will not resign and intends to file a lawsuit against the President&#8217;s decision.</p>



<p>Cook stated that there is no legal basis for her dismissal, asserting that Trump lacks the authority to remove her without cause.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Trump&#8217;s Stated Reason for Dismissal</h2>



<p>Trump, in a late-night social media post on Monday, announced his demand for Cook&#8217;s immediate removal. He cited misconduct and neglect of duty as the reasons for her dismissal.</p>



<p>Trump wrote that the US administration had accused Cook of fraud in 2021, prior to joining the Fed. He alleged that she attempted to obtain mortgage loans by falsely claiming a Michigan home and an Atlanta condominium as her primary residences.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cook&#8217;s Lawyer&#8217;s Statement</h2>



<p>Cook&#8217;s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, stated on Tuesday that there is no factual or legal basis for the dismissal and that the matter will now be pursued in court. Meanwhile, Cook, through a spokesperson, affirmed that she has been diligently fulfilling her duties in support of the US economy since 2022.</p>



<p>She had previously declined to comment on these allegations, which relate to loans taken before joining the Fed in 2022, approximately three years ago. However, she stated last week that she could not be forced to resign from the seven-member Fed board, on which she is the first Black woman to serve.</p>



<p>Currently, a Federal Reserve spokesperson has not offered an immediate comment. If successful, this dismissal could provide Trump with a majority on the Fed board, potentially aiding his goal of lowering interest rates.</p>

<p><strong>Trump 50 Percent Tariff:</strong> Following the release of a notification from the US government, it is now certain that there is no prospect of an agreement between India and the US regarding tariffs. A 50 percent tariff will be imposed on exports of Indian products from 27 August. This will directly impact Rajasthan&#8217;s exports worth ₹17,000-18,000 crore and the employment of approximately 700,000 people.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">50 Percent Trump Tariff to be Imposed from 27 August</h2>



<p>With the imposition of a 50 percent Trump tariff from 27 August, the most affected sectors are those based on labour, including gems, jewellery, garments, handicrafts, marble, granite, engineering, and automobile goods. Although Rajasthan&#8217;s exporters are mentally prepared for this, the tariff is having a significant impact on the state&#8217;s export-oriented units.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Most Orders and Bookings Cancelled</h2>



<p>Most orders and bookings from the US have been cancelled. 60-70 percent of Rajasthan&#8217;s exports occur between August and December. During this period, Christmas orders for jewellery, apparel, and handicrafts are prepared. Work in quartz factories is completely stalled, as 95 percent of quartz exports are to the US.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Industry in Shock</h2>



<p>The state government is continuously reviewing this crisis, and the state&#8217;s exporters and export-based manufacturing unit operators, while expressing confidence in the government, are mentally preparing themselves to face the challenge of Trump&#8217;s tariffs. Nevertheless, the impact of the 50 percent tariff on Rajasthan&#8217;s exports cannot be denied. Many industries are even in a state of shock. The biggest concern is employment in export-oriented units, as Rajasthan exports more labour-intensive goods than technology-based ones.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Government Should Immediately Announce Export Subsidy – Navneet Jhalani</h2>



<p>Navneet Jhalani, coordinator of the Rajasthan Handicrafts Exporters Joint Forum, says that 6,000 handicraft units in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Churu, and the 200,000 people associated with them, will be affected by Trump&#8217;s tariff. The state&#8217;s exporters are not capable of bearing this huge crisis alone. The government should immediately announce an export subsidy.</p>

<p>A case of assault has been filed against Vijay, the leader of the Tamil Nadu political party, Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), and a renowned actor-turned-politician, following an incident at a party event in Madurai. The incident occurred on 21 August 2025, during TVK&#8217;s second state-level conference, a major political rally for Vijay ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Accusations by the Complainant</h2>



<p>The complainant, Sharath Kumar, alleged that while attempting to climb the ramp to get a closer view of Vijay, he was assaulted and pushed down by Vijay&#8217;s bouncers. Sharath Kumar claimed to have sustained chest injuries in the incident. He filed a complaint at the Perambalur police station on Tuesday, leading to the registration of a case against Vijay and his bouncers under sections 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 296(B) (rioting), and 115(I) (abetment of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).</p>

<p>A seven-minute video shared by news agency ANI shows visuals from the rally. The video depicts Vijay walking on a ramp approximately 300 metres long and 12 feet high, greeted by cheering supporters numbering in the thousands. The beginning of the video shows a person being thrown off the ramp. Several supporters attempt to climb onto the ramp to greet Vijay, but are immediately pushed back by bouncers.</p>

<p>In his complaint, Sharath Kumar stated, “I wanted to see Vijay, so I tried to climb the ramp, but the bouncers pushed me. I sustained injuries in the process, and therefore I have demanded action against those responsible.”</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Significance of the Rally</h2>



<p>Held in Parapathi, Madurai, the conference was TVK&#8217;s second state-level gathering, attracting lakhs of supporters. Vijay used the platform to position his party as an alternative to the DMK and AIADMK in the 2026 Assembly elections. He accused the DMK of having a secret alliance with the BJP, labelling the BJP as his ideological enemy and the DMK as his political enemy. Vijay also announced that he might contest from the Madurai East Assembly constituency, although he later clarified that voting for all 234 TVK candidates would be equivalent to voting for him.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">300 Police Personnel Deployed at the Rally</h2>



<p>Madurai police had implemented extensive security arrangements for the rally, deploying over 3,000 police personnel. Organisers arranged 70 LED screens, 200 CCTV cameras, mini RO plants, and special facilities for women, including pink rooms and breastfeeding corners, to manage the crowd of over 1.5 lakh people. The 12-foot-high ramp was designed to prevent supporters from climbing onto it, a problem encountered at a previous conference in Vikravandi.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Vijay&#8217;s Political Journey</h2>



<p>51-year-old Vijay, a superstar of Tamil cinema, founded TVK in 2024. This rally marked a significant step in his political career, where he promised the people of Tamil Nadu a change in the 2026 elections. Utilising his film persona, Vijay presented himself as a “lion” stating that he only goes out “hunting”, not for entertainment.</p>

<p><strong>Former Cricketer Ken Shuttleworth Passes Away:</strong> The cricket world is mourning the death of former fast bowler Ken Shuttleworth. The former England player passed away at the age of 79. Shuttleworth, who made his Test debut for England in 1970, had an international career lasting less than a year. He took 5 wickets on his Test debut against Australia in Brisbane in November 1970. He played his last Test against Pakistan in June 1971. His Test career was thus quite short. He took 35 wickets for England in just 5 Tests at an average of 35.58. He also took one wicket in his only ODI for England against Australia.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">623 First-Class Wickets</h2>



<p>Ken Shuttleworth was born on 13 November 1944 in St Helens, Lancashire. Compared to his international career, his domestic career was considerably longer. From 1964 to 1980, Shuttleworth played in 239 first-class matches, taking 623 wickets. During this time, he also scored 2589 runs. In List-A cricket, he played 129 matches, scoring 374 runs and taking 174 wickets.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Played for Lancashire and Leicestershire</h2>



<p>Shuttleworth played first-class cricket for Lancashire and Leicestershire. For Lancashire, he took 484 wickets at an average of 22.92. Later, playing for Leicestershire, he added another 99 wickets to his tally. His best bowling figures were 7 wickets for 41 runs against Essex at Leyton in 1968.</p>

<p>In the 1970s, when ODI cricket was gaining momentum, Shuttleworth was a key contributor for Lancashire. His team achieved a hat-trick of Gillette Cup wins in 1970, 1971, and 1972, along with two Sunday League titles in 1969 and 1970. His best bowling figures were 5 wickets for 13 runs, including the wicket of Gary Sobers. After moving to Leicestershire in 1975, Shuttleworth retired from playing cricket. A few years later, he returned to the game as a first-class umpire. In 2021, Ken Shuttleworth was inducted into Lancashire&#8217;s Hall of Fame.</p>

<p>MP News: Indore &#8211; A metro line will connect Indore and Ujjain via Pithampur. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be paid ₹9 lakh per kilometre to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR). This will expedite the metro connectivity project between the two cities, although it is still expected to take at least 10 years to complete. In comparison, the cost of DPR preparation for metro projects in Maharashtra and Odisha is ₹12 lakh per kilometre. Madhya Pradesh has approved ₹9 lakh per kilometre for the Indore-Ujjain metro DPR, ₹3 lakh less than the rates in other states.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Phased Implementation</h2>

<li>Phase 1: ₹4.32 crore will be spent on the DPR for the Ujjain-Indore-Pithampur metro line.</li>

<p><strong>Jaipur</strong>: Residents of the state are set to receive a gift of two Vande Bharat trains, along with the inauguration of eight railway stations. The railway claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may virtually inaugurate these between 13 and 15 September. In fact, a Vande Bharat rake arrived in Bikaner on Sunday, while it will reach Jodhpur in four to five days.</p>



<p>The trial runs of both rakes will be conducted on local routes instead of Delhi Cantt. On both routes, the trains will not initially run at their full speed of 160 km/h; their maximum speed will be limited to 70-75 km/h. This might slightly dampen the passengers&#8217; excitement for a high-speed train.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Work in Progress on Fares and Timetable</h2>



<p>After finalising the proposed routes, deliberations are underway regarding the fare list and timetable. It is likely that the railway will release the fare and stop list this week.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Inauguration of These Stations as Well</h2>



<p>The renovation work on Jaisalmer, Nokha, Barmer, Someshwar, Khairthal, Narnaul, Neemkathana, and Rewari stations of the North Western Railway is complete. The inauguration of these stations is also expected along with the Vande Bharat trains.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Jodhpur-Delhi-Jodhpur Cantt Vande Bharat Train</h2>



<p>This train will operate daily except Tuesdays. Departing Jodhpur at 5:30 AM, it will reach Delhi Cantt at 1:30 PM. It will arrive at Jaipur Junction at 9:35 AM and halt for 5 minutes. From Delhi Cantt, the train will depart at 3:10 PM, reaching Jaipur at 7:10 PM and Jodhpur at 11:15 PM.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Jodhpur-Delhi Vande Bharat Train Stops</h2>



<p>During its journey, after departing from Jodhpur, this train will stop at Degana, Makrana, Phulera, Jaipur, Alwar, Rewari, and Gurugram stations before reaching Delhi Cantt station. The train will cover the 605 km distance from Jodhpur to Delhi Cantt in 8 hours and 5 minutes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Bikaner-Delhi Cantt Vande Bharat Train</h2>



<p>This train will depart from Bikaner at 5:45 AM and reach Delhi Cantt at 11:50 AM, covering a distance of 448 km in 6 hours and 15 minutes. From Delhi Cantt, the train will depart at 4:45 PM and reach Bikaner at 11:00 PM. During its journey, after departing from Bikaner, this train will stop at Ratangarh, Churu, and Rewari stations. </p>

Malayalam Rapper Granted Anticipatory Bail in Rape Case


<p>A significant development has emerged from the South Indian film industry. The Kerala High Court on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, granted anticipatory bail to renowned Malayalam rapper Hiran Das Murale, known as Vedan, in a rape case related to alleged breach of promise of marriage.</p>



<p>Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas delivered the order, clarifying that the petition did not consider other accusations against Vedan.</p>



<p>The case was filed by a female doctor who claimed Vedan befriended her on Instagram in 2021, and their relationship gradually deepened.</p>



<p>She alleged that Vedan promised to marry her and, under this assurance, engaged in physical relationships with her on multiple occasions between 2021 and 2023 in Kozhikode, Kochi, and other locations.</p>

<p>Appearing through counsel, the complainant opposed the bail plea, arguing that Vedan had similarly deceived other young women. However, the court stated that each case should be viewed independently.</p>



<p>Vedan&#8217;s lawyer argued that the relationship was consensual, initiated by the complainant contacting him as a fan, and that the complaint stemmed from personal differences.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Police Issued Lookout Notice</h2>



<p>Police had previously issued a lookout notice for Vedan, fearing he might attempt to leave the country, as he had been absconding since the case surfaced.</p>



<p>The court initially granted him interim protection from arrest while reserving its final decision on his petition. This is not the first time the 25-year-old rapper has faced legal troubles. Earlier this year, the High Court granted him bail in a separate case related to possession of tiger teeth. Furthermore, in April, he was arrested along with others during a drug raid, though later released.</p>



<p>Vedan, who rose to fame under the banner ‘Voice of the Voiceless’, gained popularity for his socially conscious rap and wrote songs for hit films like ‘Nayattu’, ‘Karam’, and ‘Manjummel Boys’. However, the current allegations have cast a shadow over his burgeoning career.</p>



<p>The High Court&#8217;s grant of anticipatory bail is considered a significant relief for the artist, while investigations continue in some other similar cases.</p>

<p>The Maharashtra government has announced a significant initiative for the people of the state during Ganeshotsav. In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, the Nagpur-Gondia Expressway project was approved. The government claims that upon completion, travel time between the two cities will reduce from three hours to just 75 minutes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">₹3162 Crore for Land Acquisition</h2>



<p>The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporations has been entrusted with the construction of this 162.5-kilometre-long expressway. Administrative approval has been granted for land acquisition, with a budget of ₹3162.18 crore allocated. A separate budget will be provided for construction work.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Current Travel Time: Three Hours </h2>



<p>The Chief Minister&#8217;s Office (CMO) stated that this route will directly benefit approximately 10 talukas and 115 villages across Nagpur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts. Furthermore, this expressway will connect major cities like Nagpur and Mumbai to underdeveloped and tribal-dominated regions.</p>

<p>The Nagpur-Gondia Expressway project includes 26 flyovers, 8 underpasses for animals, 15 major and 63 minor bridges, and 71 canal crossings. Interchanges will be constructed at 8 locations: Gavsi, Pachgaon, Thana, Rotary, Panjara, Paldongri, Lohari, and Savari.</p>



<p>The government anticipates that this 162.577 km project will not only expedite and simplify travel but also pave the way for socio-economic development in the region. <p><strong>PDS Ration Scam:</strong> Even affluent individuals are receiving subsidised grains meant for the needy from PDS shops. The Delhi Ministry of Food has issued notices to approximately 4300 people in the Khargaon district. These individuals, many of whom are millionaires, have 15 days to explain to the relevant SDM why they are receiving grains despite their financial status. Failure to provide a satisfactory response will result in the cancellation of their eligibility slips and removal from the beneficiary list. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Income Tax Department Report Reveals Scam, Food Ministry Issues Notices</h2>



<p>A report from the Income Tax Department to the Food Department revealed that individuals claiming to be poor and benefiting from government schemes are actually wealthy, with annual incomes exceeding ₹6 lakh. They fraudulently included themselves in the BPL cardholder category by misrepresenting their financial status. Following the identification of these tax payers, action has begun to remove them from the list, and notices have been served.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Beneficiaries Served with Notices</h2>



<p>DSO HS Muvel stated that notices have been issued to approximately 4300 beneficiaries in the district whose incomes exceed ₹6 lakh. They have been given 15 days to respond. Some beneficiaries, while not millionaires, have filed tax returns for home loans. These individuals can present their case before the SDM.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ultimatum in the Notices</h2>



<p>Notices have been issued to individuals in the district who have filed income tax returns or have an annual income exceeding ₹6 lakh through the relevant SDM office. The notices state that they are receiving free food grains under PMGKAY despite their annual income exceeding ₹6 lakh (as per information from the Income Tax Department). Therefore, their eligibility is questionable. The notices demand an explanation within 15 days, failing which their eligibility slips will be cancelled. These notices target three categories of individuals: those holding senior positions in companies, those filing tax returns with an annual income exceeding ₹6 lakh, and those with bank transactions exceeding ₹25 lakh.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">e-KYC Issues Prevent Some Eligible Beneficiaries from Receiving Benefits</h2>



<p>Conversely, some eligible beneficiaries in the district are unable to receive food grains due to a lack of e-KYC. These individuals frequently raise complaints during public hearings. The inability to obtain fingerprints from the elderly and children is hindering their e-KYC process.</p>
