
<p><strong>US Visa Bond:</strong> Bad news for those dreaming of visiting the United States. The US government has significantly increased visa fees under a new pilot program. Citizens of certain countries will now have to deposit a bond of up to $15,000 (approximately ₹13 lakh) for tourist and Business Visas. This rule will come into effect on 20 August 2025 and will last for one year. The aim of this program is to curb the number of foreigners who overstay their visas.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Which Countries Will Be Affected?</h2>



<p>This order by President Donald Trump will affect countries with high visa violation rates. These include countries such as Chad, Eritrea, Haiti, Myanmar, Yemen, Burundi, Djibouti, and Togo. According to the Federal Register notice, this bond may also apply to citizens of countries where screening and verification information is inadequate.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What is the Visa Bond Program?</h2>



<p>Under this pilot program, US consular officers can decide to impose a bond on applicants from countries with high visa violation rates. This bond will ensure that visa holders leave the US by the stipulated time. According to the US Travel Association, this program will affect approximately 2,000 applicants.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Trump&#8217;s Strict Measures</h2>



<p>President Trump has taken several steps to curb illegal immigration. The travel ban issued in June, which imposed full or partial restrictions on citizens of 19 countries, was also a step in this direction. Furthermore, under another recently implemented rule, all immigrants must carry their legal documents with them at all times and must inform the government within 10 days of changing their address. Failure to comply can result in a fine of up to $5,000.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Impact on Indians?</h2>



<p>Although India is not included in the list of countries affected under this program, the visa process and fees have already become more difficult for Indian applicants. In 2023, the US embassy aimed to process over 1 million non-immigrant visas, prioritizing Indians. However, fees for visa categories such as H-1B, L-1, and EB-5 have also increased since April 2024, increasing the financial burden on Indian professionals and students.</p>

<p>A devastating road accident in Barabanki district on Friday morning sent shockwaves across the state of Uttar Pradesh. A large Gulmohar tree fell on a Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) contracted bus during torrential rain. Six people, including the bus driver, died instantly, and several passengers sustained injuries. Four of the deceased were women teachers.</p>



<p>The incident occurred near Raja Bazaar in the Jaidpur police station area. The bus&#8217;s roof and windows were severely damaged. The sudden collapse caused panic and chaos, trapping several passengers inside. Local residents immediately alerted the police and rescue teams.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Chief Minister Expresses Grief and Condolences</h2>



<p>Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life. He offered condolences to the bereaved families and announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each. He stated, “This accident is extremely tragic. My condolences are with the grieving families. The state government stands with them during this difficult time.” The Chief Minister instructed district administration officials to ensure immediate hospitalisation and proper treatment for all the injured, wishing them a speedy recovery.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rain Cited as Cause of Accident</h2>



<p>Eyewitnesses reported that heavy rainfall for several hours had weakened the tree&#8217;s roots. The large Gulmohar tree fell onto the bus, which was travelling from Barabanki towards Haidergarh, carrying dozens of passengers. Passengers seated in the upper section of the bus were critically injured. Many were trapped between seats, requiring considerable effort to extract them.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rescue Operation Underway</h2>



<p>Police, fire brigade, and district administration teams arrived at the scene. A JCB machine was used to remove the tree and rescue trapped passengers. Local villagers actively participated in the rescue efforts. The injured were transported to the district hospital and nearby health centres by ambulance. Seriously injured individuals were referred to Lucknow for advanced treatment.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Four Female Teachers Among the Deceased</h2>



<p>Officials confirmed that the six fatalities included the bus driver and four female teachers who were on their way to work. Families were notified after official confirmation of the deceased.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Compensation and Investigation Ordered</h2>



<p>Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath not only announced compensation but also ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. He emphasised that despite the accident being attributed to natural causes, the administration should maintain vigilance and take precautionary measures. The district administration has formed a team to investigate the cause of the accident. Plans are also underway for the regular pruning of old and dilapidated trees during the rainy season.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">UPSRTC Appeals for Caution</h2>



<p>The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation appealed to passengers and drivers to exercise extra caution during the monsoon season. Officials stated, “Your safety is our priority. Only through patience, caution, and responsibility on the road can accidents be avoided. Please control your speed and travel according to weather conditions.”</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Wave of Grief</h2>



<p>A wave of grief swept through Barabanki and the surrounding areas following the incident. The villages of the deceased are in mourning, and people are expressing anger over the accident. Many believe the administration should have removed such old trees in time.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">River Water Levels Rise Rapidly in Satna and Rewa</h2>



<p>Due to continuous rainfall, the water level of the Mandakini river in Chitrakoot is rising rapidly. Although the water level is currently below the danger mark, heavy rainfall on Friday could cause the Mandakini to flood. Meanwhile, in Rewa district, continuous rainfall since Thursday night is causing the Tamas and Belan rivers&#8217; water levels to rise rapidly. The administration has issued an alert in the areas surrounding the rivers.</p>

<p><strong>Trump Tariff:</strong> US President Donald Trump stated that trade deal negotiations with India will not commence until the tariff issue is resolved. In response to a question from ANI regarding the 50% tariff imposed on India, President Trump confirmed that talks will not resume until the matter is settled.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">India a Strategic Partner</h2>



<p>However, regarding the ongoing trade deal discussions with India, US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated that, concerning India, the US has adopted a clear stance on President Trump&#8217;s concerns about the purchase of Russian oil, citing trade imbalances. Pigott affirmed that India is a strategic partner of the US, with whom they continue to engage in open dialogue.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">50% Tariff Imposed on India</h2>



<p>Donald Trump increased the tariff on India from 25% to 50%. However, the 25% tariff came into effect on 7 August, with the additional 25% tariff taking effect from 27 August. The US President announced the additional tariff on India for purchasing Russian oil, prompting a response from the Modi government.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Indian Government&#8217;s Response</h2>



<p>The Modi government responded by stating that targeting India is unfair and unwise. Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson issued a statement not only criticising the US tariff policy but also presenting data on purchases from Russia by the US and Europe.</p>



<p>The Indian Ministry of External Affairs&#8217; official press note detailed how Europe continues to purchase from Russia even after sanctions were imposed. Furthermore, it highlighted that the US also purchases Russian fertilisers, hexafluoride, and palladium for electric vehicles.</p>



<p>Purchasing oil from Russia is in India&#8217;s interest, as it provides affordable and reliable energy for its citizens. This is not a luxury or a whim, but a necessity. The countries criticising India are themselves engaging in large-scale trade with Russia. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the difference is that this trade is essential for India, but not a necessity for Western countries, yet they continue to do so.</p>


<p>In response to a question, US President Donald Trump stated that trade deal negotiations with India will not proceed until the tariff issue is resolved. India has also made it clear that it will not compromise on the interests of its farmers.</p>

<p>Following the discovery of a major scam involving fake Shalarth IDs used for fraudulent teacher recruitment in Maharashtra, the state government established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a thorough investigation. The team will examine teacher recruitment in Nagpur as well as in Mumbai, Nashik, Jalgaon, and the Marathwada districts of Beed and Latur.</p>



<p>The recently uncovered teacher recruitment scam in Nagpur involved the inclusion of ineligible teachers and non-teaching staff in the Shalaarth system, resulting in their receiving salaries. Some education department officials involved in the scam, using fraudulent IDs, have been arrested.</p>



<p>The SIT investigating this matter is headed by Chandrakant Pulkuundwar, the Divisional Commissioner of Pune. The team also includes Inspector General of Police Manoj Sharma and Harun Atar, Joint Director of the Directorate of Education. The SIT is required to submit its report to the government within three months. The investigation will cover all recruitments, approvals, service continuity, and transfers from non-granted to granted positions from 2012 to the present.</p>



<p>According to reports, the SIT will investigate all individual approvals, Shalaarth approvals, service continuity, and transfers from non-granted to granted positions for teachers and non-teaching staff in primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools under all divisional education deputy director offices from 2012 to the present.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, the state&#8217;s education department is in turmoil. Over 1,000 gazetted officers in the department have announced an indefinite mass leave starting August 8th. The officers&#8217; association claims that 1,000 officers, including education officers, deputy directors, and pay superintendents, will participate in this protest.</p>



<p>It remains to be seen what changes will occur in Maharashtra&#8217;s education department and teacher recruitment system after the SIT&#8217;s report is submitted in three months, as this scam has brought thousands of recruitments in several districts, including Mumbai, under scrutiny.</p>

<p><strong>RSRTC:</strong> As part of the budget announcement and to strengthen public transport, 300 new buses have been added to the roadways fleet. Of these, 12 Volvo buses have recently been launched by Roadways. Furthermore, 288 buses have been allocated to 34 depots across the state. Of these, Jaipur&#8217;s Vaishali Nagar, Vidhyadhar Nagar, and Jaipur depots have received 82 buses. The new buses will improve connectivity between rural and urban areas. The General Manager of the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has recently issued orders in this regard.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Buses to Feature GPS System and Panic Button</h2>



<p>Sources say that these buses are equipped with GPS systems and CCTV cameras. Comfortable seating and improved ventilation have been provided for passenger convenience. Each woman&#8217;s seat will have a panic button. If a female passenger feels any discomfort or senses danger, she can use the panic button.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">E-Ticketing System Also Available</h2>



<p>These buses will also have an e-ticketing system, which will promote cashless payments. According to Roadways officials, these buses will be sent to various depots across the state in a phased manner and deployed on priority routes. This will also increase Roadways&#8217; revenue.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Vaishali Nagar Depot Receives the Most Buses</h2>



<p>According to information received from the Roadways headquarters, Jaipur&#8217;s Vaishali Nagar depot has received the most buses, with 40. Following this, Vidhyadhar Nagar and Shahpura depots received 22 buses each, while Jaipur and Dausa depots received 20 buses each. Bhilwara, Sikar, and Udaipur depots received 10 buses each. Ajmer and Ajmeru received 7 buses each, and the remaining depots received 5 buses each.</p>

<p>New buses will be provided to the depots to expand passenger facilities. The new buses have many amenities. Nepali women alleges sexual assault insiide bus for two days in Patna, Driver Absconding


<p>A case of assault against a Nepali woman has come to light in Patna. Police have filed an FIR based on the victim&#8217;s statement and launched a search for the accused. Police, while providing information about the case, stated that the victim, upset with her family, first went to Siliguri. From there, she reached Patna. In Patna, a private bus driver allegedly assaulted her for two days before fleeing. The victim&#8217;s age is estimated to be around 25 years.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Police Launch Investigation</h2>



<p>Patna police refused to comment on the accused bus driver. However, sources say the accused driver is from Delhi. Police are conducting raids to arrest him. The victim told police that after a dispute with her family in Nepal, she fled home and first reached Siliguri in West Bengal. From there, she took a train and arrived in Patna two days ago.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lured with the Promise of a Job</h2>



<p>The victim told police that upon exiting Patna station, she met the accused bus driver. He lured her with the promise of a job and took her near the Biscomaun-1 campus in the Airport police station area. The victim stated that the accused bus driver raped her inside the bus for two days. The victim alleges that the driver also stole her money and mobile phone.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Case Registered Based on Victim&#8217;s Statement</h2>



<p>The victim said that she somehow managed to escape and recounted her ordeal to Biscomaun personnel. With their help, she reached the police. Police say a case has been registered based on the victim&#8217;s statement and an investigation has begun. The accused is reported to be absconding. He has been identified. Police claim he will be arrested soon.</p>
