
<p>A horrific road accident occurred in Herat province, Afghanistan, on Tuesday. The devastating crash involved a passenger bus carrying deported Afghan citizens returning from Iran. The bus collided with a motorcycle and then a fuel tanker, resulting in a fire engulfing the bus. This accident took place in the Guzara district, outside Herat city. The passengers were recently deported Afghan nationals travelling from the Islam Qala border crossing towards Kabul.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">71 Killed</h2>



<p>This tragic accident resulted in the deaths of 71 people, including 17 children. The death toll also includes two people on the truck and two on the motorcycle.</p>

Chamoli midnight cloudburst wreaks havoc: houses buried, girl dead, CM Dhami says monitoring situation


<p>Heavy devastation struck the Tharali region of Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, late Friday night due to a cloudburst. Around midnight, the calamity unleashed from the sky in the Raadibagad area shook the entire region. Debris brought by torrential rain swept away houses, shops, and roads. In this disaster, a young woman from Sagwada village died after being buried under the debris, while one person is reported missing from Chepdon Bazaar.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Administrative Buildings Also Submerged in Debris</h2>



<p>Meanwhile, shops and houses in Kotdipa, Nagar Panchayat Tharali, have suffered heavy damage. Debris entered the residence of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and the house of the Nagar Panchayat president in Raadibagad, causing walls to collapse and significant damage. Several bikes and other vehicles were also affected by the debris.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Traffic Completely Disrupted</h2>



<p>Heavy debris and rain have completely blocked the Tharali-Gwaldam and Tharali-Sagwada routes. The National Highway near Minggdera is closed, bringing movement to a standstill. So much debris has accumulated on the town&#8217;s roads that they resemble ponds.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Panic and Rescue Operations</h2>



<p>The SDRF team is engaged in relief and rescue operations. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) team is trying to clear the blocked roads.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Schools and Anganwadis Closed</h2>



<p>Considering safety, the district administration has ordered the closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres in Tharali tehsil on Saturday (23 August). District Magistrate Dr. Sandeep Tiwari stated that relief work is challenging due to continuous rain and debris, but police and administration teams are working on the ground with full force.</p>



<p>Chamoli&#8217;s ADM Vivek Prakash informed that considerable damage has occurred due to the cloudburst in Tharali. A woman named Kavita was found buried under the debris, while one person is reported missing. Upon receiving information about the incident, our teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. Affected people are being moved to safe places, and the extent of the damage is being assessed.</p>



<p>Uttarakhand&#8217;s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the incident. He wrote on the social media platform X, “Received the sad news of a cloudburst late at night in the Tharali area of Chamoli district. The district administration, SDRF, and police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am constantly in touch with the local administration in this regard and am personally monitoring the situation closely. I pray to God for everyone&#8217;s safety.”</p>

<p><strong>Jaipur.</strong> The monsoon has once again gained full momentum in Rajasthan. Heavy rainfall on Friday disrupted daily life in several districts. The situation in Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, and Baran has become flood-like. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 11 districts of the state on Saturday. More rainfall is particularly expected in Bhilwara and Chittorgarh districts today. Schools have been declared closed in nine districts in view of the situation.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Army Assistance for Relief and Rescue</h2>



<p>Seeing the deteriorating situation in the Kota division, the administration had to call in the Army along with the NDRF and SDRF. In Nainwa town of Bundi, up to 13 inches of rain was recorded in 9 hours. Meanwhile, in Bijaulia, Bhilwara, 166 mm of rain in 24 hours caused the Panchanpura dam to overflow and the Aroo river to swell. People had to be rescued from several areas.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sawai Madhopur and Kota Worst Affected</h2>



<p>In Sawai Madhopur, a boat capsized near the Surwal dam, causing panic. Ten people were on board, three of whom were rescued. Continuous rain washed away a bridge on National Highway-552, completely halting traffic. Water entered houses in the old city, and railway tracks were submerged, affecting five trains.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Water Up to 4 Feet on Roads</h2>



<p>The situation in Kota was also extremely bad. Many colonies and markets were submerged. In Sultanpur town, water accumulated up to four feet on the roads. A police vehicle also got stuck in the water and had to be pulled out with a tractor. Three gates of the Kota barrage had to be opened on Friday morning.</p>

<p>According to Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, the monsoon had been weak for the past two weeks. However, the monsoon trough returning to its normal position and the cyclonic circulation over the Madhya Pradesh-Rajasthan border becoming stationary led to a sudden spell of heavy rainfall.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Schools Closed in These Districts, Daily Life Affected</h2>



<p>Due to heavy rainfall, schools were closed on Saturday in Chittorgarh, Baran, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Jhalawar, Kota, Bundi, Dungarpur, and Bhilwara. After the gates of the Mahi dam were opened in Banswara, Beneshwar Dham has turned into an island.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">When was TikTok Banned?</h2>



<p>TikTok was among the internet media platforms blocked by the government in June 2020, following clashes between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh. At that time, the Indian government banned approximately 59 Chinese apps, with further bans on other apps following. The central government cited ‘data privacy’ and ‘national security risks’ as reasons for blocking TikTok. Since then, the app has remained inaccessible in one of India&#8217;s largest markets.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why the Resurfacing Rumours?</h2>



<p>Recent improvements in India-China relations have fuelled speculation of a reversal of the ban. Earlier this week, a visit to New Delhi by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi included meetings with Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Both sides emphasised the importance of ‘frank and constructive’ dialogue. The Prime Minister&#8217;s planned trip to China later this month for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit could signal further improved relations. Meanwhile, after 24 rounds of talks, the Chinese army has withdrawn from Galwan and other areas, easing border tensions. Both countries have agreed to resume border trade and flights. These diplomatic advancements have fuelled speculation about the return of Chinese platforms like TikTok and AliExpress.</p>

<p>A major road accident occurred early Saturday morning in Rajsamand district. A Rajasthan Roadways bus (number RJ32PA3476) travelling from Jaipur to Udaipur collided head-on with a pickup truck near the Jal Wale Balaji temple, close to Amartiya village in the Charbhuja police station area. The accident resulted in the death of both drivers, and eight passengers sustained serious injuries.</p>



<p>According to reports, around 5 am, the Roadways bus was proceeding towards Udaipur when it collided with a pickup truck carrying cold drinks. The impact was so severe that the bus dragged the pickup truck for approximately 100 feet. The pickup truck was completely wrecked, and both vehicles plunged into a ditch beside the road.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Driver&#8217;s Body Trapped in Vehicle</h2>



<p>The pickup truck driver, Nanuram, a resident of Udaipur, died at the scene. His body was trapped in the severely damaged vehicle, requiring approximately an hour of effort from police and villagers to extricate. The Roadways bus driver, Ladulal Rabari, son of Maisalal, a resident of Sagwara, Jalore, was taken to Charbhuja CHC in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">30 Passengers Aboard the Bus</h2>



<p>Upon receiving information about the accident, Charbhuja police arrived at the scene and immediately transported the injured to the hospital via ambulance. Initial treatment was provided at Charbhuja CHC, after which those with serious injuries were referred to other facilities. It is reported that approximately 30 passengers were on the bus at the time of the accident.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Bodies Kept in Mortuary</h2>



<p>Police stated that they are investigating the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary investigations suggest that both the bus and the pickup truck were travelling at high speed, leading to the severe collision. The bodies of the deceased have been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem examinations, and their families have been informed.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Police Investigation Underway</h2>



<p>The tragic accident caused widespread panic in the area. Local residents gathered at the scene and assisted the police with rescue efforts. Treatment for the injured is ongoing. The police are conducting a thorough investigation and taking necessary legal action.</p>

<p><strong>Barmer:</strong> In response to the growing preference for allopathic treatment and declining interest in Ayurveda, the state government has taken a significant decision. Medicine parks will be developed in each assembly constituency.</p>



<p>These parks will cultivate major medicinal plants as well as local herbs to increase awareness and appreciation of their importance, encouraging people to embrace Ayurveda. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian healing system. For thousands of years, its inexpensive and effective treatments were widely used.</p>



<p>However, in recent decades, the popularity of allopathic medicine has surged, leading most people to opt for it. While allopathic treatment offers immediate results, its high cost poses significant challenges for many. To revive interest in Ayurveda, the government has made this crucial decision.</p>



<p>The Ayurveda department will establish a medicine park in each assembly constituency. These parks may be located in public spaces or gardens. Major medicinal plants and local herbs will be cultivated and maintained.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Seven Assembly Constituencies of Barmer-Balotra</h2>



<p>The districts of Barmer and Balotra include the assembly constituencies of Barmer, Chouhtan, Shiv, Gudamalani, Pachpadra, Siwana, and Gudamalani. The department has submitted proposals for establishing medicine gardens in these areas, including Barmer headquarters.</p>



<p>These gardens will feature plants such as <i>Shankhpushpi</i>, <i>Sahjan</i>, <i>Ashwagandha</i>, <i>Shatavari</i>, <i>Guggul</i>, and <i>Guarpatha</i>, among other major and local medicinal herbs.</p>

<p>Late Friday night, two people died and over 20 were injured in a fire involving an LPG tanker on the Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar highway in Punjab. Police reported that the tanker exploded, causing the fire to spread rapidly, engulfing 15 shops and five residential houses in the Mandiala Adda area. A heart-wrenching video of the incident has also surfaced.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rescue Operations Underway</h2>



<p>Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain stated that preliminary investigations suggest the fire started after the tanker collided with another vehicle. She added that fire engines and ambulances arrived at the scene immediately. Jain confirmed that the fire has been brought under control and that the assessment of damage is underway.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Two Dead, 23 Injured in Accident</h2>



<p>The Civil Surgeon of Hoshiarpur Civil Hospital reported two fatalities and 23 hospital admissions. Six critically burned patients were referred to higher medical centres. Upon receiving news of the incident, Punjab Minister Ravjot Singh visited the site. He described the accident as “unspeakable” and “very tragic,” adding that the number of missing persons is still unknown. Accounts from locals suggest a tanker collided with a car, leading to a gas leak and subsequent explosion and fire.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Locals Stage Protest</h2>



<p>Following the accident, residents of Mandiala staged a protest. Demonstrators stated that they have long been demanding the relocation of a nearby water plant, but the administration has ignored their concerns, leading to a persistent risk of such incidents.</p>



<p>Villagers reported that gas tankers frequently speed along this road, posing a constant threat to the nearby population. They accused tanker drivers of often parking on both sides of the road instead of at the plant, increasing the likelihood of accidents.</p>

<p>The NEET PG exam is conducted for MD, MS, and PG diploma courses. Only after passing this exam can medical graduates pursue further studies. The examination was already delayed, and now the controversy surrounding the results has further increased student anxiety. Angered by the non-inclusion of marks for review questions and the non-availability of answer sheets, students are now preparing to approach the court. They believe that a fair result is unlikely without judicial intervention.</p>

<p><strong>RGHS</strong> Major Update: Cashless Treatment Suspended from 25 August. The Rajasthan Alliance of All Hospital Associations has announced a boycott of cashless treatment services under the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) from 25 August. The association comprises approximately 700 private hospitals and 4200 pharmacies across the state. Notably, a previous announcement had been made to boycott cashless treatment under this scheme from 20 August.</p>

<p><strong>SSC Stenographer Answer Key 2025:</strong> New information has been released for candidates who appeared in the SSC Stenographer exam. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the provisional answer key for the Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ examination, 2025. This examination was conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT) on 6, 7, 8 and 11 August 2025 at various centres across the country. Candidates can now view the answer key on the official website. Candidates can also raise objections online based on their response sheet and the answer key. The window for submitting objections will be open from 6 PM on 22 August to 6 PM on 25 August. A fee of ₹50 per question has been set for raising objections (previously it was ₹100).</p>

<p>Before the results are released, candidates can calculate their estimated marks based on the answer key. Add marks for correct answers. Marks will be deducted for incorrect answers according to the negative marking scheme. No marks will be added or deducted for unattempted questions. The response sheet will contain the candidate&#8217;s name and roll number, the name of the exam and post, the date and time of the exam, details of the exam centre, and all the questions asked along with the answers selected by the candidate.</p>

BCCI dismisses rumors of Shreyas Iyer as ODI captain


<p>A recent media report claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was about to remove Rohit Sharma as ODI captain and appoint Shreyas Iyer in his place. The BCCI has now refuted these rumours. According to a Hindustan Times report, BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia denied reports of Iyer&#8217;s appointment.</p>

<p>Saikia stated unequivocally, “There has been no discussion on this matter, and these are all rumours. Shreyas Iyer is not the board&#8217;s first choice for captaincy.” He further explained that current Test captain Shubman Gill would be the natural choice for the ODI captaincy. Saikia&#8217;s statement clarifies the BCCI&#8217;s focus on young, talented players who can lead Indian cricket for a long time.</p>

<p>The report quoted another BCCI official as saying that Shubman Gill is not only the vice-captain of the ODI team but also boasts an average of 59 in ODI cricket, reflecting his consistency and ability. Bronco Test: BCCI Introduces New Fitness Test for Cricketers


<p><strong>Bronco Test:</strong> The BCCI&#8217;s Centre of Excellence has introduced a new fitness test called the Bronco Test following the India vs England Test series. The aim of this new test is to ensure that BCCI centrally contracted players, especially fast bowlers, maintain a high level of fitness and improve their aerobic capacity. Reports suggest the Bronco Test was introduced after several players were found to be lacking in fitness during the five-match Test series in England.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Some Contracted Players Have Taken the Bronco Test</h2>



<p>According to a report in <em>The Indian Express</em>, the suggestion to introduce the new fitness test came from strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux, and head coach Gautam Gambhir also agreed. The report states that the coaches want players, especially fast bowlers, to focus more on running rather than spending excessive time in the gym. It is understood that some contracted players have already taken the Bronco Test at the Bengaluru-based Centre of Excellence (COE).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Fast Bowlers Spending More Time in the Gym Than Running</h2>



<p>The report, quoting sources, says the Bronco Test is being used to ensure that fitness standards are clear. It has also been observed that Indian cricketers, especially fast bowlers, are not running enough and are spending too much time in the gym. Players have been told they need to run more.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Yo-Yo Test Remains Mandatory</h2>



<p>Several Indian bowlers, including Akashdeep and Prasidh Krishna, struggled with their bowling during the India vs England Test series. Jasprit Bumrah played only three Tests under workload management, while only Mohammed Siraj managed to play all five. The Bronco Test is in addition to the existing Yo-Yo test; passing the Yo-Yo test remains mandatory.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How the Bronco Test Works</h2>



<p>A player starts with a 20-metre shuttle run, followed by 40-metre and 60-metre runs. These three runs constitute one set. A player must complete five such sets (a total of 1200 metres) without stopping. Indian cricketers are required to complete the Bronco Test within a 6-minute interval. The standard for fast bowlers in a 2-kilometre time trial is 8 minutes 15 seconds. For batsmen, wicketkeepers, and spinners, it is 8 minutes 30 seconds.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Yo-Yo Test</h2>
