<p>A spokesperson for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport reported that flight AI 171, en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed outside the airport shortly after takeoff. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, is currently closed. All flight operations have been temporarily suspended until further notice.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Amit Shah Expresses Grief</h2>



<p>Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his grief over the incident. He posted on X, stating: &#8220;I am unable to express in words the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. Disaster response forces have been immediately dispatched to the crash site. I have spoken to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi, and the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner to assess the situation.&#8221;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">‘All Agencies Working’</h2>



<p>A senior police officer stated that initial reports indicated the Air India plane, destined for London, crashed into a doctors&#8217; hostel. Police and other agencies arrived at the scene within 2-3 minutes. Approximately 70-80% of the area has been cleared. All agencies are working at the site.</p>

<p>Focusing first on Khargone, one of the districts affected by heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning, the weather has been erratic for the past three days. The intense heat and humidity have given way to sudden changes in the weather every evening. In the past 24 hours, strong winds and heavy rain caused the collapse of several house walls. Strong winds and storms over the past two days have caused significant damage, including fallen trees on main roads and in rural areas, disrupting traffic.</p>



<p>The impact of the storm was particularly severe in the village of Pipri in the district. Many houses suffered significant damage. A 40-foot wall collapsed, and 40 tin sheets were ripped from a house. The intensity of the storm is evident in the fact that a dog tied to a pole outside a house was lifted approximately 10 feet into the air along with the pole and landed on the house roof. It had to be rescued using a ladder.</p>

<p>Kalu Sakaria&#8217;s house in the same village collapsed like a house of cards. Kalu recounts how his family barely escaped, taking refuge in another house as they witnessed the fury of the storm. His mud house disintegrated, and the tin sheets were blown away. He believes that had they not fled in time, there could have been significant loss of life. Kalu, whose house was almost completely destroyed, has appealed to the government for assistance.</p>

<p>In Dhar district, lightning strikes have been reported for the past 48 hours, resulting in three deaths and the loss of several livestock. The victims include two women and one man. One person is seriously injured. In Badpipli (Sitapat), two goats were killed by lightning, and approximately four other animals were struck. These incidents occurred within the jurisdiction of Sardar Pur police station and Amjhera police station in Sardar Pur tehsil.</p>

<p>In Shambhu Khedi village, under Ashta in <a href="https://www.patrika.com/sehore-news/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sehore</a> district, three young men tending livestock in a field were struck by lightning. One died instantly, and two others were injured. Eyewitnesses report that the three were sheltering under a tree during the rain when it was struck. 50-year-old Kailash died at the scene, while the other two injured were taken to Ashta Civil Hospital for treatment.</p>

<p>In <a href="https://www.patrika.com/panna-news/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Panna</a> district, a shepherd died after being struck by lightning. This tragic incident occurred in Rajapur Sunhara village under Panna Kotwali police station. A 50-year-old shepherd, Janaki Pal, was struck while herding goats. Local police arrived at the scene, prepared a report, and took the body for a post-mortem examination.</p>

<p>In Alirajpur district, three people died in two separate lightning strike incidents, and one person was seriously injured. The victims include two young men and a woman. Five livestock also perished. It is reported that the young men were sheltering under a Mahua tree to avoid the rain. Revenue officials arrived at the scene after the incident. The incidents are reported from Barjhar and Chandrashekhar Azad Nagar.</p>

<p>In the tourist town of Khajuraho, an hour of heavy rain and strong winds brought relief from the heat but also caused widespread damage. Fallen trees disrupted power supply. Two vehicles were damaged in the parking lot of the Western Group of Temples after trees fell on them. The &#8220;Atithi Devo Bhava&#8221; signboard installed during the G20 summit at Gandhi Chowk was also damaged. Several trees were uprooted, and a roadside puncture repair stall was blown onto the road. A section of the Hotel Radisson boundary wall was also damaged by a falling tree.</p>



<p>In Chhatarpur district, heavy rain and thunderstorms tragically struck a family. A lightning strike in Khiri village under Garhi Malhara police station killed a mother and daughter instantly, while the woman&#8217;s husband sustained serious burns. The victims have been identified as Mankuar Kushwaha (approximately 28 years old) and her daughter, Karishma Kushwaha (10 years old). All three were working in the field when the storm hit.</p>

<p>A helicopter crashed near Gaurikund in Kedarnath, resulting in the death of seven people, including the pilot and a child. The accident occurred around 5:30 AM today.</p>



<p>The helicopter, belonging to Aryan Aviation Company, crashed into a forest above Gauri Mai Khadk. Preliminary investigations suggest inclement weather as the cause of the accident.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Women Report the Crash</h2>



<p>Nepali women working in the fields above Gaurikund reported the helicopter crash. Nodal Officer Rahul Chaubey and District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar confirmed the crash. Rescue operations have commenced.</p>



<p>Media reports indicate seven fatalities, including a couple and their 23-month-old child. Two of the deceased are reportedly from Uttarakhand: Vinod Negi and Vikram Singh. Vikram Singh Rawat was an employee of BKTC. The deceased are identified as Rajkumar Jaiswal, Shraddha Jaiswal, Kashi Jaiswal, Tushti Singh, Vinod, Vikram Singh, and Captain Rajiv. The Jaiswal family is reportedly from Maharashtra.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Victims from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat</h2>



<p>The Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) reported that a helicopter en route from Shri Kedarnath Dham to Guptkashi crashed near Gaurikund around 5:20 AM. Passengers on board hailed from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed for rescue and relief efforts.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Expresses Grief</h2>



<p>Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on &#8216;X&#8217;, “Received the very sad news of the helicopter accident in Rudraprayag district. SDRF, local administration and other rescue teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I pray to Baba Kedar for the safety of all passengers.”</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Highway Emergency Landing</h2>



<p>Earlier, on June 7th, a helicopter crash occurred in the Kedarghati region. Due to a technical malfunction, the helicopter had to make an emergency landing on a road. Fortunately, all five passengers and the pilot were safe during the emergency landing.</p>

Recently, a mimicry artist lost their life during the shoot, marking the second death on the ‘Kantara 2’ set. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Set mimicry artist Dies</h2>



<p>The shooting of Rishab Shetty’s directorial venture and acting project, ‘Kantara 2’, has been plagued by accidents. Following a previous fatality, the recent death of mimicry artist Kalabhavan Niju has heightened concerns. Kalabhavan Niju had been working on the film for some time. According to a report by Onmanorama, the 43-year-old experienced chest pain during filming. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his illness. Fellow mimicry artist Kannan Sagar confirmed the news of Kalabhavan Niju’s passing.</p>

<p><strong>Chances of rain in 33 districts:</strong> May and June are typically known for heat waves and intense heat. During this time, temperatures rise rapidly, and north-westerly winds dry out the atmosphere. However, this time, there are persistent easterly winds carrying moisture from the Bay of Bengal. This has not only increased humidity but also pushed the heat index to record levels.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">14 June: Possibility of thunderstorms and rain in several districts</h2>



<p>Amidst the scorching heat in Uttar Pradesh, there is some welcome news. According to the Meteorological Department, thunderstorms and rain are likely in the districts of Moradabad, Amroha, Sambhal, Bijnor, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Rampur, Budaun, Sambhal, Etawah, Aligarh, and Hathras on 14 June. Strong winds with speeds of 30-40 km/h are also expected during this period.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">15 June onwards: Indications of weather change across the state</h2>



<p>From 15 June onwards, gusty winds, drizzle, and strong winds may begin in western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Light rain and thunderstorms are predicted in approximately 33 districts, including Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Ballia, Basti, Siddharthnagar, and Deoria. This is expected to lead to a drop in temperature.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lucknow: Temperature crosses 42 degrees, signs of relief</h2>



<p>In Lucknow, the capital city, strong winds on Friday provided some respite from the heat, although the heat index remained high due to humidity. The maximum temperature on Friday was recorded at 41.9 degrees and the minimum at 30.5 degrees, significantly higher than normal. On Saturday, the temperature is likely to remain around 41 degrees amidst cloudy conditions.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Kanpur: Heat index reaches 64, situation in the red zone</h2>



<p>In Kanpur, the moisture from the Bay of Bengal has exacerbated the heat. Due to persistent easterly winds and high temperatures, the heat index reached 64 on Friday. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for Saturday. If the clouds don&#8217;t bring rain, the chances of relief are low.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Jhansi, Prayagraj, Hamirpur: Night temperatures remain a challenge</h2>



<p>Nights remain restless in the southern districts of the state. Night temperatures above 32 degrees Celsius were recorded in Jhansi, Hamirpur, and Mathura. The night temperature at Kanpur Air Force Station was 32.4 degrees, the highest for this season.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Humidity increases discomfort, record-breaking humidity levels along with temperature</h2>



<p>Not only is the temperature high, but the humidity levels are also record-breaking. Maximum humidity was recorded at 63% and minimum at 38%, making the humid heat even more oppressive.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Alert for thunderstorms and rain until 17 June</h2>



<p>The IMD has issued an alert for thunderstorms and rain until 17 June. According to meteorologists, there is currently no major weather system active to provide widespread relief. However, the movement of a western disturbance has begun, increasing the likelihood of rain after 17 June.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Moradabad: Relief from cloudy conditions and rain</h2>



<p>In Moradabad, cloudy conditions and light rain on Friday provided some relief from the heat. 4.2 mm of rainfall was recorded, and the maximum temperature was 38.4 degrees. The presence of clouds and strong winds on Thursday and Friday brought some coolness to the atmosphere. However, the night temperature was 29.2 degrees, 3.2 degrees above normal.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cloudy conditions for the next three days</h2>



<p>According to the Meteorological Department, cloudy conditions will prevail for the next three days, with intermittent light drizzle. If a low-pressure area forms in the Bay of Bengal, the thunderstorm activity may intensify, and relief from the heat may be experienced.</p>


<p>UP Rain: Relief is in sight for Uttar Pradesh amidst the scorching heat and heatwave. The meteorological department has issued an alert for thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds in several districts of the state from 14 to 17 June.</p>

<p>A massive fire broke out in the Marina Pinnacle (also known as Tiger Tower), a 67-storey residential skyscraper in Dubai Marina, in the early hours of Saturday. The incident caused widespread panic, but the swift action and efficiency of the Dubai Civil Defence ensured the safe evacuation of all 3820 residents. Videos of the incident, showing raging flames and the frantic rescue operation, have gone viral on social media.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">No Casualties</h2>



<p>The fire started early Saturday morning, quickly engulfing a large section of the building. Residents of the 764-apartment building were asleep when the fire broke out. Dubai Civil Defence’s specialist firefighting and rescue units immediately responded. Residents, including pets, were safely evacuated using stairs and lifts. Authorities have confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Fire Brought Under Control in Six Hours</h2>



<p>The Dubai Civil Defence team worked tirelessly for six hours to bring the fire under control. The intensity of the flames posed a risk to nearby buildings, but the situation was contained in time. This building is located near The Torch Tower, which experienced fires in 2015 and 2017.</p>

Groundbreaking Trojan Horse Therapy for Blood Cancer


<p>A major breakthrough in cancer treatment offers hope for thousands of patients. England&#8217;s NHS (National Health Service) has introduced a novel therapy called the “Trojan Horse” therapy, a world-first treatment specifically for myeloma, a type of blood cancer. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Blood Cancer Therapy – Why is this therapy so special?</h2>



<p>Myeloma is a cancer affecting plasma cells (cells that are part of our immune system) found in the spongy bone marrow within our bones. The therapy, formally known as belantamab mafodotin, is called a “Trojan Horse” because it operates similarly to the Greek myth&#8217;s Trojan Horse. Just as soldiers hid inside the Trojan Horse to infiltrate the city, this drug stealthily delivers a toxic payload directly into cancer cells.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How does this “smart drug” work? (Trojan Horse Cancer Drug)</h2>



<p>This therapy is a highly advanced form of chemotherapy. A potent chemotherapy drug is attached to an antibody. Antibodies are like soldiers fighting infections in our bodies. However, the antibodies used in this therapy are specifically designed to recognise markers present only on cancerous plasma cells.</p>



<p>These antibodies directly target cancerous cells, bind to their surface, and are then absorbed by the cancer cells. Once inside, the antibodies release their toxic payload, killing the cancer cells.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What are its benefits?</h2>



<p><strong>Longer Relief:</strong> This therapy can suppress myeloma for approximately three times longer than existing treatments. Clinical trials have shown it can delay cancer progression for three years instead of 13 months.</p>



<p><strong>Reduced Side Effects:</strong> It&#8217;s superior to standard chemotherapy because it directly targets cancer cells, causing less damage to other parts of the body. This results in fewer side effects. However, some residual chemotherapy drug may spread after cancer cell elimination, potentially causing side effects like eye dryness and blurred vision.</p>



<p><strong>Improved Quality of Life:</strong> This therapy allows patients to live a normal life free from the disease. Paul Sylvester, a 60-year-old who received this therapy, describes it as life-changing. Diagnosed with myeloma two years ago, previous treatments required months of isolation. This therapy enabled his recovery within weeks, allowing him to enjoy life again.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Which patients will benefit?</h2>



<p>Around 33,000 people in the UK live with myeloma. This new drug will be administered when initial treatments fail, potentially benefiting approximately 1,500 patients annually. NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) has deemed it cost-effective for the NHS.</p>



<p>Professor Martin Kaiser, a myeloma researcher, describes these as highly intelligent drugs with significantly reduced side effects compared to other medications. While myeloma isn&#8217;t yet fully curable, Professor Kaiser believes such drugs represent a significant step towards a &#8220;functional cure,&#8221; predicting that the percentage of patients achieving long-term remission could exceed 50% within the next five years.</p>



<p>These Antibody-Drug-Conjugates (ADCs) are being developed not only for myeloma but also for various other cancers. Research is underway for breast, stomach, and bowel cancers.</p>



<p>This therapy was developed in the UK by GSK, with initial research conducted in Stevenage and early clinical trials in London. Both Shelagh McKinlay of Myeloma UK charity and Health Minister, Caroline Smith, have hailed this approval as &#8220;revolutionary,&#8221; marking a significant advancement in cancer treatment for the UK.</p>
