<p>Dozens of irregularities have been found in the safety checks of Air India&#8217;s aircraft. In view of this, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also issued a new deadline.</p>



<p>During its annual audit, the DGCA found 51 safety deficiencies in Air India&#8217;s operations. The audit identified several shortcomings, including outdated training manuals, fragmented training records, a lack of pilot training, substandard simulators, untrained personnel managing flight rosters, and irregularities in approvals for low-visibility operations.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rectify 7 deficiencies by 30 July</h2>



<p>7 deficiencies are extremely serious. These have been classified as Serious Level-1 in the audit report. Air India has been ordered to rectify these by 30 July.</p>



<p>The remaining 44 non-compliance issues must be resolved by 23 August. Along with this, the DGCA has asked Air India to provide proof of compliance with all safety protocols.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Three notices were sent on 23 July</h2>



<p>It may be noted that on 23 July, the DGCA sent three show-cause notices to the airline for various deficiencies. A 15-day time limit was given to respond.</p>



<p>Earlier, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, informed Parliament that the DGCA has immediately grounded the aircraft involved in the delayed slide inspection until the necessary checks are completed.</p>



<p>He stated that all airlines must adhere to safety and maintenance standards, and in case of violations, enforcement action, including fines, warnings, or suspension, may be taken.</p>

<p>On Wednesday, 30 July, Russia experienced the world’s most dangerous earthquake in the last 14 years. The quake measured 8.8 on the Richter scale and had a depth of 20.7 kilometres. According to Indian Standard Time, it struck at 4:54 a.m. The earthquake occurred in the Kamchatka Peninsula region, and tremors were felt not only in the epicentre but also in several surrounding areas, causing widespread panic. Multiple aftershocks followed, which are still continuing.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Tsunami hits Russia and Japan</h2>



<p>Following today’s earthquake in Russia, a tsunami alert was issued for coastal areas of Russia, Japan, the United States, China, Indonesia, Ecuador, Chile, Costa Rica, French Polynesia, and Guam. Shortly afterwards, tsunami waves hit some coastal regions in Russia and Japan, and the threat still remains.</p>

<p><strong>PM Kisan 20th Instalment</strong> Good news for farmers awaiting the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-Kisan). PM Modi will deposit ₹2000 into farmers&#8217; accounts on 2 August. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this instalment will be released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on 2 August 2025.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Funds to Reach Bank Accounts Directly</h2>



<p>Under this scheme, beneficiary farmers receive ₹2000 each, directly transferred to their bank accounts. Millions of farmers across the country will join this virtual event on 2 August. According to government estimates, approximately 9.3 crore farmers will benefit this time as well. Beneficiaries are informed via SMS alert immediately after the instalment is released.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Many Instalments Released So Far?</h2>



<p>The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was launched in 2019. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually, disbursed in three instalments. The central government has released 19 instalments so far. The 20th instalment will be released on 2 August. Beneficiaries receive this amount every four months.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">e-KYC and Land Record Verification Mandatory</h2>



<p>Only those farmers who have completed their e-KYC and land record verification on time will receive the benefits of this scheme. Farmers whose Aadhaar cards are not linked to their bank accounts or whose records are incomplete will not receive the instalment this time. The government has repeatedly appealed to eligible farmers to update their details as soon as possible.</p>


<p>The 20th installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) will be released by Prime Minister Modi on 2 August 2025. Prime Minister Modi will virtually launch it from Varanasi.</p>

<p>The International Cricket Council (ICC) has finalised the qualification process for men&#8217;s cricket at the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. This decision was taken during the ICC&#8217;s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Singapore from 17 to 20 July. According to reports, the ICC has decided to determine team qualification on a regional basis. This means that the arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, will not face each other in men&#8217;s cricket at the Olympics 2028.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Qualification Process Finalised</h2>



<p>According to <i>The Guardian</i>, the ICC has decided to determine qualification on a regional basis. The top-ranked teams from Asia, Oceania, Europe, and Africa will automatically qualify for the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. Based on this reasoning, India, Australia, Great Britain, and South Africa will occupy four out of six places.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Host Nation USA Faces Uncertainty</h2>



<p>The host nation, the USA, will also qualify. However, the ICC recently requested the entire US Cricket Board to resign under the Olympic certification framework. If this is not complied with, this spot will be given to a Caribbean country. One final spot remains, for which the ICC might organise a tournament for the fifth and final place.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PCB and New Zealand Cricket Displeased with Decision</h2>



<p>The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and New Zealand Cricket are unhappy with the ICC&#8217;s decision. Despite having a better ranking than South Africa, New Zealand will not qualify. Pakistan is also not in contention, given India&#8217;s top ranking. Other strong Asian teams like Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh will also miss out.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">No India vs Pakistan Match at the Olympics</h2>



<p>This means there will be no India versus Pakistan cricket match at the Olympics. The aim of reintroducing cricket has always been to attract Indian viewers – something the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has not yet achieved. To accommodate Indian viewers, men&#8217;s cricket matches will be scheduled in the morning according to Indian Standard Time. The IOC wants the biggest match – India versus Pakistan – but the ICC has decided otherwise.</p>

<p>The Gujarat (ATS) has arrested the alleged mastermind and exposed a large module linked to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), the Indian unit of the terrorist organisation. This action is considered a significant achievement for the country&#8217;s internal security.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lady Mastermind Arrested</h2>



<p>On 30 July 2025, the ATS arrested a 30-year-old woman, Sama Parveen, from Bengaluru. She was linked to Al-Qaeda and involved in spreading online hatred. Before this, the ATS had arrested four other terrorists – Mohammad Faik, Mohammad Fardeen, Saifullah Qureshi, and Zishan Ali – from Delhi, Noida, and various parts of Gujarat.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Attempt to Incite Violence on Social Media</h2>



<p>On 10 June 2025, Gujarat ATS Deputy SP Harsh Upadhyay received intelligence that anti-national and inflammatory content was being spread through several Instagram accounts. These accounts shared AQIS terrorist content, jihadi videos, and messages promoting violence. The aim was to radicalise youth and incite violence against India&#8217;s democratic system.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ATS Operation</h2>



<p>Based on the intelligence, the ATS deployed four teams in Delhi, Noida, Modasa, and Ahmedabad. With the assistance of the Delhi Special Cell, UP ATS, and local police, the four accused were apprehended on 21 and 22 July. During the investigation, a sword and AQIS jihadi literature, including material related to ‘Operation Sindur’, were recovered from Fardeen Sheikh. A video was also found on Fardeen&#8217;s mobile phone, showing him brandishing a sword and saying, &#8220;This was the only thing missing; now everything is complete.&#8221;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Activities of the Accused</h2>



<p>According to the ATS, the arrested terrorists were attempting to conceal their activities using social media and auto-delete apps. They were promoting Al-Qaeda&#8217;s ideology through Instagram, which included establishing Sharia law and overthrowing democracy in India. Mohammad Faik was also found to be in contact with Pakistani Instagram accounts that were supplying him with jihadi material.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Case Registered Under BNS Sections</h2>



<p>A case has been registered against the accused under sections 13, 18, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), along with sections 113, 152, 196, and 68 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Fardeen and Saifullah have been remanded for 14 days, while the other two accused will be produced in court.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ATS Investigation Continues</h2>



<p>ATS DIG Sunil Joshi stated that material promoting Gazwa-e-Hind, Kafir, and violence was recovered from the accused&#8217;s mobile phones. This module was plotting to spread communal hatred and carry out terrorist activities in the country. The ATS says the investigation is ongoing, and further arrests of individuals linked to this module are possible.</p>

This remarkable feat was achieved by bowler DT Chandrasekar in a TNCA First Division League match. The left-arm spinner from the C Hawks team bowled out Globe Trotters on Tuesday, the second day of the match, showcasing his exceptional spin bowling skills. <p><strong>Patna Weather Update</strong> Patna, the capital city of Bihar, has witnessed its heaviest rainfall in 28 years. The downpour on Monday and Tuesday inundated several areas of the city. Many parts of Patna were submerged due to the torrential rain. According to the Meteorological Department, 175 millimetres of rain fell in the city within 24 hours. This is the highest single-day rainfall recorded since 1997. Waterlogging persisted in low-lying areas of the capital city even on Tuesday.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">28-Year-Old Record Broken</h2>



<p>The Meteorological Department reported 175.4 millimetres of rainfall in Patna in the 24 hours ending on 29 July. Previously, the highest 24-hour rainfall was recorded on 30 June 1997, at 181.1 millimetres. Light to moderate rainfall continued in several parts of Patna on Tuesday, with 3.3 mm of rain recorded.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Patna&#8217;s Temperature</h2>



<p>Due to the rainfall, Patna&#8217;s maximum temperature increased by 1.2 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature dropped by 1 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature was 30.3 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature was 25.7 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department forecasts cloudy skies for Patna on Wednesday, with a possibility of lightning and winds reaching 30-40 kilometres per hour in one or two places in the district.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Minister Inspects Affected Areas</h2>



<p>On Tuesday, Bihar&#8217;s Urban Development Minister Jivesh Mishra reviewed the measures taken to address waterlogging in Patna and issued instructions to officials. He directed that efforts be made on a war footing to drain water from low-lying areas, including procuring motor pumps from nearby municipalities and seeking assistance from experts and engineers from other departments if needed. He also instructed that an officer be deployed in each area severely affected by waterlogging.</p>

Bullet train to pass through 34 villages in Bhilwara, 86-km track planned


<p>The proposed bullet train between New Delhi and Ahmedabad will pass through 34 villages in Bhilwara district. A track around 86 kilometres long will be built in the district for this purpose. </p>



<p>As part of the project, a public hearing was held on Tuesday at the Municipal Council auditorium. Residents from Rayla, Banera, and Baroda villages who attended the hearing raised questions about how they would be compensated for their land. </p>



<p>The total length of the track in Bhilwara district will be 86 kilometres. Work on starting the project has gathered pace, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared soon based on the survey report.</p>



<p>During the public hearing at the Nagar Parishad auditorium, Martand Singh Rathore, Joint General Manager of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited, presented the project to administrative officials and villagers. He stated that the bullet train will have a speed of 350 kilometres per hour. </p>



<p>Upon completion, the journey between Delhi and Ahmedabad will be reduced to 3 hours. </p>



<p>There will be 15 stations between the two cities. Of the total 886-kilometre-long track, approximately 658 kilometres will pass through seven districts of the state: Alwar, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, and Dungarpur. The train will also stop in Bhilwara.</p>



<p><b>Entire Track to be Elevated</b></p>



<p>Officials explained that due to safety and technical reasons related to train operation, the entire track will be elevated. A helicopter survey of the entire track has been conducted. The bullet train&#8217;s maximum speed will be 350 km per hour, while the average speed will be 250 km per hour. The bullet train will run on an elevated track 10 to 15 metres above ground level. The track width will be approximately 17.5 metres. The elevated track on pillars will eliminate any risk to life and property on the ground and will not impede people&#8217;s movement or cause other inconveniences. Vimal Kumar, Environmental Consultant of SIA, and Vijay Kumar, Social Consultant of EIA, also provided information about the bullet train corridor.</p>



<p><b>Affected Areas</b></p>



<p>The train will pass through 34 villages across five tehsils in Bhilwara district. This route will affect 36 religious sites, 8 educational institutions, and 3 hospitals. Approximately 1600 trees will be felled. In Bhilwara, this 86-km track will run from Hurda&#8217;s Lamda to Ojhyara.</p>



<p><b>Compensation Details</b></p>



<p>Rathore explained that land acquired in rural areas will receive compensation four times the DLC (District Land Collector) rate or market rate, whichever is higher. In urban areas, compensation will be double the rate. This compensation will be provided under the NHAI project. A committee headed by the District Collector will be formed for this purpose. A 30-day period will be given to vacate houses and premises, which the committee may extend.</p>



<p><b>Significant Discrepancy between DLC and Market Rates</b></p>



<p>JP Jat, Krishna Gopal Kogta, Murli Gharnevadiya, and Ronak Nevadiya, who came from the Rayla and Banera areas, stated that the government has reduced the DLC rate. The current rate is the same as the rate from 20 years ago, while the market rate is many times higher. They questioned the basis for compensation. Panchayats issue leases, but these do not specify residential or commercial plots, making compensation determination difficult. Villages have residential, commercial, and institutional land. Those present at the public hearing suggested that compensation should be based on the current land use. A proposal was also made regarding whether the administration would provide land in exchange for land or provide resettlement. Subhash Bairava and Panna Lal Bairava from Narayanpura raised issues related to previous compensation cases. Bhagwat Singh Rathore from Khaiराबाद raised the issue of grazing land. Additional District Collector (Administration), Dr. Rajesh Goyal, stated that the government will make every effort to provide compensation. The DLC rate was reduced due to the Corona pandemic. The public hearing was attended by Nagar Parishad president Rakesh Pathak, Tehsildar, and officials from other departments.</p>

<p><strong>Jaipur:</strong> The Rajasthan state government is set to present a special gift to Anganwadi workers and helpers on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Approximately 1.25 lakh Anganwadi workers and helpers across the state will receive ₹501 in their accounts before Raksha Bandhan.</p>



<p>Furthermore, they will be able to travel free of charge on Rajasthan Roadways buses for two days. Prior to this, &#8216;Anganwadi Bahan Samman Diwas&#8217; will be celebrated on 5 August. This event, organised by the Women and Child Development Department as part of the &#8216;Suraksha-Samman Parv&#8217;, will be held at the Birla Auditorium, Jaipur, at the state level.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Umbrella to be presented to each worker</h2>



<p>On this day, each Anganwadi worker and helper will also receive an umbrella. Preparations for the state-level event have begun. District-level events will also be organised.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Instructions issued to all Collectors</h2>



<p>The department has issued instructions to all District Collectors in this regard. Approximately 600 Anganwadi workers and helpers will participate in the district-level events, where a live broadcast of the state-level programme will also be shown.</p>

<p>The Delhi government has taken a landmark decision, approving amendments to allow women to work night shifts in shops and commercial establishments. This is the first amendment to the Delhi Shops and Establishment Act of 1954, legally permitting and protecting women&#8217;s night work. This move is expected to significantly boost women&#8217;s socio-economic empowerment and increase employment opportunities.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Stringent Safety Measures in Place</h2>



<p>Before implementing this decision, the Delhi government has established strict safety regulations. These include mandatory CCTV surveillance at workplaces, deployment of women security guards, and provision of safe transportation for employees. Under this law, a female employee can only be assigned a night shift with her written consent. Furthermore, no woman can be dismissed from her job if she chooses not to work the night shift.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Supreme Court Questions Restrictions</h2>



<p>The Supreme Court recently deemed restrictions on women working night shifts unfair. Former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud stated that providing security is the government&#8217;s responsibility, not restricting work. He questioned why women should be prevented from working at night when men work in night shifts in professions like pilots and soldiers.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Chief Minister Calls it a Transformative Step</h2>



<p>Chief Minister Rekha Gupta (रेखा गुप्ता) described this policy as a crucial step towards making Delhi a 24&#215;7 business hub. She stated that this decision will strengthen women&#8217;s economic independence and make Delhi more competitive commercially. The proposal has been sent to the Lieutenant Governor for approval. CM Rekha stated that this decision will increase women&#8217;s participation in the workforce, thereby increasing employment opportunities for women.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Which Establishments are Included?</h2>



<p>Under the new policy, retail stores, showrooms, beauty salons, call centres, IT companies, and other commercial establishments will be permitted to employ women in night shifts. This permission is being granted by removing the restrictions of the previously enforced sections 14, 15, and 16, which prohibited women from working during different times in winter and summer, thus limiting job opportunities for women.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Strict Regulations for Employee Welfare</h2>



<p>The new policy mandates employers to provide all statutory benefits such as ESI, PF, bonus, overtime, and weekly holidays. Salaries must be paid only through digital means. Furthermore, internal complaint committees under the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Act will be mandatory at workplaces. Adequate lighting and security arrangements at pick-up and drop-off points will also be necessary.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Expert Reactions</h2>



<p>Kalpana Vishwanath, co-founder of Safepin, welcomed the policy but cautioned that successful implementation will be the real test. She emphasised the need to focus on public transport and road safety alongside workplace safety. Senior advocate Madhavi Diwan described the old rules as patriarchal, stating that this change will promote women&#8217;s freedom and self-reliance.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">States Where the Rule is Already in Place</h2>



<p>States like Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Haryana already allow women to work night shifts, but this rule was not in place in Delhi. This limited job opportunities for women. The Delhi government&#8217;s move will now boost employment opportunities for women in sectors like IT, BPO, and hospitality, strengthening the business environment and promoting women&#8217;s economic empowerment.</p>

<p>The proposal is now awaiting the Lieutenant Governor&#8217;s approval. Once approved, establishments employing women in night shifts will have to adhere to all safety and facility standards set by the government.
